What You’ll Do
- Embody the mission and vision of Atlas while building a student culture of health and wellness
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education lessons that meet Colorado Academic Standards for Physical Education
- Serve as an adviser for a group of students and their families, including regular communication, problem-solving, and hosting quarterly family conferences
- Incorporate fitness assessments, skill development, cooperative games, and team sports into daily instruction
- Promote and model sportsmanship, safety, and respect in all physical activities
- Manage equipment inventory, safety checks, and the physical space (indoor and outdoor) to ensure a secure environment for all students
- Implement classroom and behavior management strategies tailored for physical education environments
- Assess student progress regularly through fitness tests, skill evaluations, participation rubrics, and written reflections
- Collaborate with colleagues and instructional coaches with sincerity and a growth mindset
- Actively engage students in learning through differentiated instruction that meets individual physical abilities and needs
- Provide classroom coverage for absent colleagues when needed (compensated additionally)
- Participate in professional development aligned with school goals and your own professional growth
- Draft quarterly report cards to reflect student progress in physical fitness, teamwork, and personal goal-setting
- Build strong relationships with families through active engagement aimed at understanding their backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences
- Support daily operational duties including arrival, dismissal, lunch supervision, student transitions, field trips, community events, graduation, and additional activities that serve our students and families
- Perform other duties as assigned
Compensation & Schedule
- Salaried/Exempt
- Signing Bonus: $1,000
- Annual
Salary Range: $50,500 - $63,549 (DOE)
- Full Time; Monday - Friday; Occasional evenings and weekends as needed

- - Following years will not include new staff orientation and will consist of 196 workdays.

QualificationsWho You Are

Required Qualifications
- Able to meet “in-field status” for the position with one of the following by October 31, 2026:
- - Colorado Department of Education License with endorsement in Physical Education
- - Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field
- - 24 completed credit hours (aligned with CDE requirements)
- - Completed/passed the PRAXIS 5091 within the last 10 years
- Ability to successfully pass all required background screening pursuant to CRS § 22-30.5-110.7
- CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
- A commitment to educational equity and promotion of physical fitness for all students, regardless of ability
- Hold high standards for student behavior and accountability in a dynamic, active environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to demonstrate evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player

Qualifications
- Bilingual: Spanish & English or have experience working with bilingual students
- A strong foundation in fitness training, health education, team sports, and adaptive physical education
- Successful leader of an urban classroom who has used structure, incentives, and high expectations to drive student success while creating a joyful environment for students to thrive in
Essential Job Functions
- Must be able to regularly fulfill duties in person
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, and successfully working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
