High School Counselor (9 - 12)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist all students in the areas of academic achievement and social/emotional development.
  • Assist and teach students how to manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills.
  • Teach school counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards.
  • Provide short-term counseling and small group counseling to students.
  • Refer students for long-term support when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with families/teachers/administrators/community for student success.
  • Conduct data analysis to identify student issues, needs and challenges within the school.
  • Must be familiar with Section 504 under IDEA and monitor the implementation of 504 plans for students on caseload.
  • Participate in school and district committees and initiatives to provide system support.
  • Assist with crisis management.
  • Develop and follow an effective school counseling program and annual plan, consistent with the school, district and ASCA mission and vision.
  • Develop and implement testing schedule and administration for PSAT/SAT, AP, State testing, and other assessments.
  • Participate in the development of the building master schedule.
  • Check quarterly grades for students/monitor teacher input of grades each quarter at submission time deadline.
  • Attend district counselor meetings.
  • Participate as a member of the School Problem Solving Team; be willing to lead this team as needed.
  • Provide all school counseling needs for a caseload of up to 385 high school students.
  • Uphold ASCA ethical and professional standards.
  • Be a team player, an excellent communicator, and have a willingness to work strategically with parents of all students.
  • Fulfill continuing education requirements.
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the school Principal.


Minimum Qualifications:
School counselor for grades 9 - 12
Current DE teaching license - Secondary School Counseling
