The position

The Aga Khan Schools in Kenya operates five schools and one residential school, offering both the national and international curricula from nursery to secondary.

The Aga Khan School, Mombasa provides high-quality education to students from nursery to secondary (Playgroup to Grade 12). It offers the High Scope Curriculum for nursery students, which is an inquiry-based, hands-on curriculum. The school offers the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) for its primary and secondary students and aims to nurture the holistic development of its students from an early age.

We are seeking to fill the below post within our establishment. The position holder will be based at our Aga Khan High School, Mombasa.

  1. Position: Swimming Coach/Teacher

Role Summary

The Swimming Teacher/Coach will endeavor to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promote physical fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver engaging and inclusive Swimming and Physical Health and Education lessons aligned with the CBC curriculum.
  • Support students in developing physical literacy, teamwork and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement inquiry-based, student-centered learning experiences.
  • Contribute to the co-curricular sports programme and school events as required.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide lesson cover within the department during planned staff absences or emergencies.
  • Contribute to whole-school events and initiatives, promoting a collaborative school community.
  • Planning swimming lessons that consider students’ abilities and progressive development.
  • Keep record of the swimming equipment available in the school.
  • Being a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage children and adults to participate in swimming.

The requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must possess Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Physical Education).
  • Must be registered with Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
  • Must be a trained Swimming coach with minimum of FINA Level II training, or Kenya Swimming Teachers & Coaches Association or its equivalent.
  • 3 years' experience with demonstrable achievements in teaching swimming in a school set up.
  • Certification as a life guard and First Aid will be an added advantage.
