Reports to: Aquatics Leadership Team and Deck Supervisor

Shifts Needed

• Fridays and Sundays,
• Wednesdays and Monday Afternoons; 3:45 - 5:45 pm

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Aquatics leadership team, swim instructors provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Essential Functions

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with Lakeland Hills YMCA guidelines. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents/guardians. Maintains effective, positive relations with the members, participants and other staff.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary and notifies the Aquatic Leadership Team.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment and reports damaged equipment to the supervisor.
• Provides leadership training and supervision to class aides as assigned.
• Responsible for teaching YMCA swim lesson program classes for up to 8 children.
• Instructors must teach in the water for every class.
• Must be qualified and able to teach freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, elements of butterfly and elementary backstroke.

Qualifications

• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Must be a strong, competent swimmer, and be able to demonstrate freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
• Must be able to maintain a positive attitude towards students and staff.
