Job Description

Swim Instructor (Part-Time, Weekends Required)

This is a fun, high-energy position teaching children a life-saving skill: water safety and swimming. At British Swim School, what you do matters—every lesson builds confidence, safety, and lifelong skills.

Smiles and silliness are part of the job—but so is focus, consistency, and a strong commitment to every child’s safety and progress.

This is more than a job. It’s an opportunity to make a real impact in your community while growing personally and professionally.

What This Job Really Requires

To be successful in this role, you must be:

  • Available consistently on Saturdays and/or Sundays (our busiest teaching days—this is not optional)
  • Able to commit to a regular weekly schedule for at least 6 months
  • Comfortable working in the water for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Energetic, patient, and confident working with young children, including those who may be fearful, distracted, or upset
  • Reliable and punctual—our families depend on you being there every scheduled shift

If you’re looking for something flexible that you can easily adjust around other priorities, this role may not be the best fit.

What You’ll Do

  • Teach swim lessons using the British Swim School program (training provided)
  • Create a safe, supportive, and fun learning environment for young swimmers
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about progress and comfort levels
  • Follow all safety and program standards consistently
  • Work closely with your Aquatics Manager and team

Training Commitment

  • Paid training is provided
  • Completion of all training sessions is required before teaching independently
  • Ongoing monthly training is part of the role

Benefits

  • Competitive pay
  • Paid training
  • Financial assistance for Lifeguard Certification (restrictions may apply)
  • Fun, upbeat, and purpose-driven environment
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in your community
  • Free British Swim School swag
  • Monthly training with lunch provided
  • Birthdays off with pay
  • Uniform provided
  • Opportunities for advancement within a growing company

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic and positive personality
  • Enjoy working with children
  • Strong sense of responsibility and safety awareness
  • Willingness to complete all required training and maintain certifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong swimming skills

About Us

At British Swim School, we are more than a typical swim lesson provider. Our mission is rooted in addressing the serious issue of childhood drowning through education and survival-based swim instruction.

We are a survival-first swim school, meaning we prioritize water safety and life-saving skills before traditional stroke development.

Our goal is simple and powerful:
To ensure that every person, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to become a safe and happy swimmer.

Before You Apply

Please consider:

  • Can you consistently commit to weekend shifts?
  • Are you prepared for a role that is physically active, repetitive, and high-energy?
  • Are you genuinely interested in teaching and working with children, not just looking for any job?

If yes—we’d love to meet you.
Compensation: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour

Working at British Swim School is more than just a job; it’s a chance to create a lasting impact that could change a child's life.

As part of the British Swim School Team, you play a role in your local community, empowering others and sharing your passion. It’s a chance to be part of a fun-loving team of dedicated people who are committed to promoting water safety and a lifelong love of the water.

While we teach swimming to people of all ages and abilities, most of our students are preschool and elementary-aged kids. Our instructors should like working with this age group and be good at making parents feel comfortable. It's helpful if you have experience with children or in a child-focused job, but it's not required if you can show the right attitude. The job comes with specialized training in our advanced and unique British Swim School approach.

We also have exciting opportunities with our Customer Service Team, even if you're not in the pool. These are the people committed to providing the best service in the industry. In these roles, you might talk to parents on the phone or by the pool. Wherever you are, the aim is to make everyone feel like part of the British Swim School Family as we focus on ensuring the “Survival of the Littlest.”

Each franchise location is independently owned and operated by a franchisee (franchise owner). Your application will go directly to the franchisee, and all hiring decisions will be made by the management of this franchisee. All inquiries about employment at this franchisee should be made directly to the franchise location, and not to British Swim School Corporate.
