The Y is seeking Swim Instructors to work in their busy Aquatics Center. In this role you will instruct group classes in a safe, enjoyable, culturally aware, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Essential Functions of the Swim Instructor
1. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests while exemplifying the Y’s commitment to the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responds to all member and community inquiries in a timely manner.
2. Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
3. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
4. Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
5. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six model” (Prevent, Recognize, Activate EAP, Rescue, Care, Report).
6. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
7. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
8. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
9. At any point you may be assuming the responsibility as the authoritative figure.
10. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
11. Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. 1+ year of experience teaching youth.
2. Minimum age of 18.
3. Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect.
4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
5. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
6. Current YMCA certified Swim Instructor, YMCA Water Safety instructor. * The YMCA will assist with the above training to be achieved within the first year of employment.
7. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. 5+ years of experience in teaching Swim Lessons.
2. Hold a Swim Coach Certificate
