Job Description

Position Title: SWE2 w/ Cloud
Position Type: Full-time, On-Site
Location: Annapolis Junction, MD
Clearance: Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph


Waypoint’s client is seeking a SWE2 w/ Cloud to support modernization, research, and innovation initiatives across mission-critical systems. This role focuses on evaluating existing environments, driving cloud adoption, and delivering rapid, validated solutions through structured trade studies and short-duration experiments.

The selected candidate will collaborate with mission stakeholders to assess system gaps, design fail-fast experiments, and lead cloud-focused proof-of-concept efforts that inform long-term architectural decisions. This role directly supports cloud migration, cloud-native development, and enterprise system re-architecture efforts.

Responsibilities:
  • Engage with mission stakeholders to identify cloud modernization opportunities and operational challenges.
  • Conduct trade studies and produce technical research reports with cloud-focused recommendations.
  • Design and execute fail-fast experiments to validate cloud architectures and solutions.
  • Develop and deliver proof-of-concept cloud solutions, demonstrating measurable progress.
  • Support re-platforming and refactoring of legacy applications into cloud-native architectures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate solutions into AWS-based environments.
  • Apply secure authentication, authorization, and PKI principles within cloud architectures.
  • Support systems operating across low-side and high-side environments.
  • Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and recommend innovative solutions aligned with mission needs.

Required:
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in software engineering, cloud development, or system modernization.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Python, and JavaScript (ReactJS).
  • Experience with AWS services, including EC2 and S3.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs and modern microservices architectures.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with Agile/SAFe development methodologies.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible.
  • Understanding of OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and PKI.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.

Desired:
  • Experience with Elastic MapReduce (EMR).
  • Experience conducting cloud architecture trade studies and modernization assessments.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk or Grafana.
  • Familiarity with graph databases (Neptune, Neo4j).
  • Exposure to AI/ML tools (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face).
  • Experience with Golang development.
  • Experience with identity management platforms (e.g., Keycloak).
