A Brief Overview
The SVP, Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy serves as Safelite’s most senior government affairs and public policy leader, responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy to shape public policy, influence legislative and regulatory outcomes, and advance the company’s business objectives at the federal, state, and local levels.
This role provides executive leadership across lobbying, policy research and analysis, advocacy, political engagement, and regulatory strategy, while building and sustaining trusted relationships with policymakers, regulators, industry associations, OEMs, clients, and internal stakeholders. The SVP anticipates and navigates an increasingly complex regulatory landscape, positioning Safelite as a credible, solutions-oriented partner in public policy discussions affecting the automotive, insurance, and mobility ecosystems.
The role sits within the Safelite Legal organization, reporting to the General Counsel, with regular engagement and strategic counsel provided to the President & CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Directors.
What You Will Do
Executive Leadership & Strategy
• Develop, lead, and execute Safelite’s enterprise-wide government affairs and public policy strategy, aligned with long-term business goals and growth initiatives
• Serve as a senior advisor to executive leadership on legislative, regulatory, political, and reputational risks and opportunities
• Translate complex public policy developments into clear, actionable insights for business leaders and functional teams
Federal, State & Local Government Engagement
• Act as Safelite’s primary representative to federal, state, and local government officials, regulators, and relevant agencies
• Lead strategic engagement with policymakers to shape legislation, regulations, and administrative actions affecting Safelite and the broader industry
• Build and maintain high-trust, long-term relationships with elected officials, regulators, and key policy influencers across party lines
Lobbying, Advocacy & Political Engagement
• Oversee and optimize Safelite’s federal and multi-state lobbying efforts, including direct engagement and coordination with 30+ external lobbyists and consultants
• Direct the company’s advocacy, grassroots, and coalition-building initiatives to advance Safelite’s public policy priorities
• Provide executive oversight of PAC governance, political contributions, and engagement strategies, ensuring effectiveness, transparency, and compliance
Policy Research, Analysis & Thought Leadership
• Lead monitoring, analysis, and forecasting of legislative, regulatory, and policy trends, assessing business, operational, and reputational impacts
• Guide the development of company policy positions, white papers, testimony, and legislative proposals
• Position Safelite as a thought leader and trusted industry voice through participation in hearings, public forums, and industry events
Cross-Functional & External Collaboration
• Partner closely with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Finance, Communications, and Business Unit leaders to align public policy efforts with enterprise objectives
• Build strong external partnerships with industry associations, OEMs, clients, insurers, and coalition partners to advance shared policy goals
• Provide training and guidance to senior leaders and associates on government affairs engagement and advocacy best practices
Governance, Ethics & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with all applicable lobbying, ethics, disclosure, and campaign finance laws and regulations
• Uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct in all government and political activities
• Protect and enhance Safelite’s brand and reputation through disciplined, values-driven public policy engagement
Education Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Relations, Law, or related field (Required)
• Master’s Degree or Law Degree (JD) (Preferred)
Experience Qualifications
• 15+ years of progressive leadership in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory strategy at the state and federal levels
• 10+ years of experience managing sophisticated lobbying operations, including multi-state and federal networks and external advocacy partners
• Proven success leading public policy, political, and advocacy initiatives that drive measurable business outcomes
• Significant experience overseeing PACs, political compliance, and grassroots programs
• Demonstrated experience engaging with complex, highly regulated industries (e.g., insurance, automotive, mobility, financial services, or healthcare)
Skills and Abilities
• Executive-level leadership presence with the ability to influence at the C-suite, Board, and policymaker levels
• Deep understanding of federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory processes
• Strong policy analysis and research capability, with the ability to synthesize complex information into strategic recommendations
• Exceptional relationship-building, negotiation, and persuasive communication skills
• High political and regulatory acumen with strong cross-partisan judgment
• Strategic thinker with the ability to execute effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
• Strong project and stakeholder management skills with demonstrated follow-through and accountability
• Unquestioned integrity, discretion, and commitment to ethical practice
• Ability to travel up to 50%
