The SVP – Financial Advisory Services Compliance is responsible for the overall compliance programs for SECU’s Financial Advisory Services. This includes serving as the Chief Compliance Officer for a Registered Investment Adviser, Broker-Dealer, and Life Insurance Company. The role will support the senior management of each line of business in their compliance responsibilities and regulatory obligations by providing effective advice and subject matter expertise.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • 40% - Chief Compliance Officer for CUIS and SBS. Responsible for the continued build out and effectiveness of Credit Union Investment Services (“CUIS”), an NC Registered Investment Adviser and SECU Brokerage Services (“SBS”), an SEC registered Broker-Dealer, compliance programs.
    • Advising the business lines, developing compliance policies and procedures, reviewing marketing materials, developing and ensuring the effectiveness of ongoing compliance testing, and coordinating required regulatory filings.
    • Responsible for the branch audit program including the annual design, implementation, and review of effectiveness.
    • Receive escalations from all areas of the investment business in order to review and facilitate the handling and reporting of issues as necessary.
    • Serve as the AML Compliance Officer for CUIS and SBS and oversee the BSA/AML Program for each.
  • 15% - Chief Compliance Officer for SECU Life Insurance Company. Responsible for the continued buildout and effectiveness of SECU Life Insurance Company’s, a North Carolina insurance company, compliance program.
    • Advising the business line, developing compliance policies and procedures, reviewing marketing materials, developing and ensuring the effectiveness of ongoing compliance testing, and coordinating required regulatory filings.
    • Receive escalations from all areas of the investment business in order to review and facilitate the handling and reporting of issues as necessary.
    • Serve as the AML Compliance Officer for SECU Life and oversee the BSA/AML Program.
  • 15% - FAS Compliance Program and Standards. Responsible for developing the compliance programs for SECU’s Financial Advisory Services and Retail Delivery Network that are not part of a subsidiary company.
    • This includes overseeing the buildout of processes and procedures for issue identification and escalation, effective compliance controls to monitor, detect and address compliance risks through compliance risk assessments, and providing advice and guidance to respective business lines.
    • The SVP FAS Compliance will serve as the primary point of contact and liaison between Financial Advisory Services business lines and SECU’s regulatory and risk areas including Legal Services, Corporate Compliance, Risk Management, and Audit Services.
  • 10% - Regulatory Examinations and Audits. Coordinate efforts for regulatory examinations and inquiries, external audits, internal audits, other related engagements and compliance reporting activities.
    • Serve as primary operational contact for regulators and auditors.
    • Coordinate responses to regulatory requests and findings.
    • Oversee remediation tracking and corrective action implementation.
    • Ensure timely and accurate regulatory reporting and documentation.
  • 10% - Compliance Data and Analytics. Responsible for developing and the continued buildout of the FAS Compliance Data Analytics.
    • Design and enhance required Board reports, critical metrics and Key Risk Indicators, and data visualization and reporting to deliver key compliance insights to other areas of management.
    • Oversee and support the governance of data analytics across Financial Advisory Services, including defining, approval, and documentation of standard methods, programs, and rules to ensure the quality, integrity, consistency, and accuracy of data used for FAS CUSO reporting.
  • 10% - Board Interaction and Corporate Governance. Responsible for reporting to the respective Boards of Directors for each subsidiary company the overall compliance status of each company. Represent Financial Advisory Services on SECU executive level Compliance Committee. Provide relevant compliance training to Board of Directors and keep informed of regulatory risks to the respective companies.

Required Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • FINRA Series 7, 24, 65 (or equivalents or ability to obtain)
  • 7 years’ experience in compliance, regulatory, or risk management within financial services, including registered investment adviser and broker dealer.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading compliance programs for regulated entities within a multi-entity organizational structure.

Preferred Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

  • Advanced degree or professional certifications (J.D., CRCM, ACAMs)
  • NC Insurance licenses, CFP, CAMS, CRCP
  • 10+ years’ experience in compliance, regulatory, or risk management within financial services, that specifically includes affiliated registered investment adviser, broker dealer, and bank or credit union.

Job Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Hybrid Schedule – Need to be willing to commute to office located in Raleigh, NC.
  • Sitting for prolonged periods, telephone for prolonged periods, computer work for prolonged period.
  • Occasional need for travel, including overnight, within the state of North Carolina.
