The Sustainability Specialist leads the development, integration, and management of corporate and site-based Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies at the Copper Mountain mine, British Columbia business unit (BCBU). This role advances the company’s commitment to responsible mining by embedding sustainability standards—such as Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) protocols, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001—across BCBU departments, while maintaining key ratings and certifications. Responsible for ensuring rigorous compliance with international reporting frameworks, driving decarbonization initiatives, and monitoring and reporting emissions and sustainability performance Hudbay-wide to stakeholders, the Specialist builds the business case for sustainability projects and facilitates post-project measurement and verification.
Additionally, the position serves as a key strategic advisor to internal leadership, bridging operational engineering, environmental management, corporate communications, and investor relations to advance environmental stewardship, foster a culture of responsible resource development, and align sustainable practices with corporate and site-based long-term business resilience, growth, and social license to operate.
