Job Purpose

The WPS Sustainability Manager is a member of a team within WPS providing expert leadership, technical authority and delivery oversight for sustainability and environmental management across M&G’s corporate operations globally. It works closely with the M&G’s Central Sustainability Office that it responsibility for the Group’s sustainability priorities and framework across both its investment activities and corporate operations.

Operating as a Manager Expert, the role is responsible for shaping and executing M&G’s operational decarbonisation pathways, ensuring all workplace sustainability activity is compliant, defensible, auditable and aligned to regulatory requirements, recognised frameworks and Group commitments.

The role translates Group‑level climate ambitions into practical, data‑driven actions across offices, business travel and suppliers, while maintaining clear ownership of statutory and regulator‑facing sustainability reporting for corporate operations.

Key Accountabilities

Expert Leadership & Advisory

  • Act a senior subject‑matter expert for corporate operational sustainability within M&G’s corporate operations.
  • Advise the Head of WPS and senior stakeholders on sustainability‑related risks, obligations, and opportunities relating to M&G’s corporate operations.
  • Provide technical challenge and assurance to ensure sustainability outcomes are credible, proportionate and operationally achievable.

Decarbonisation of Corporate Operations

  • Own the design, governance and delivery of corporate decarbonisation programmes, relating to M&G’s third party supplier relationships and support WPS’s decarbonisation activities related to:
    • Offices and buildings (energy, carbon, water, waste and operational performance); and
    • Business travel (demand management, reduction strategies and residual emissions treatment)
  • Develop and maintain clear, costed decarbonisation roadmaps aligned to science‑based pathways and M&G’s climate commitments.
  • Ensure initiatives are prioritised based on emissions impact, regulatory risk, cost and operational feasibility.

Statutory, Regulatory & Mandatory Reporting (Corporate Operations)

  • Hold end‑to‑end responsibility for statutory and regulatory sustainability reporting relating to M&G’s corporate operations, including:
    • UK and international climate‑related disclosure requirements applicable to corporate functions
    • Environmental and carbon reporting obligations linked to corporate real estate and operations
  • Ensure full compliance with evolving regulatory standards.
  • Act as an interface for auditors and internal assurance in relation to environmental reporting and controls.

External Frameworks & Voluntary Disclosures (Corporate Operations)

  • Play a key role in Workplace Solutions’ input into target setting methodologies , ensuring operational pathways are robust, deliverable and evidence‑based and contributions to CDP and related external disclosures for corporate operations.
  • Play a key role in defining governance for the appropriate use of carbon credits, ensuring alignment with best practice, transparency expectations and Group policy.

Data Governance, Controls & Assurance

  • Ensure robust data governance, methodologies and controls for sustainability metrics across corporate operations, and that related to third party suppliers in particular.
  • Ensure all third party supplier sustainability data is accurate, complete, consistently applied and audit‑ready.
  • Support internal controls testing, external assurance and audit activities relating to sustainability and environmental reporting.

Policy, Standards & Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain operational sustainability policies, standards and guidance relating the M&G Third Party Suppliers.
  • Embed sustainability considerations into supplier selection, engagement and management processes.
  • Identify and manage sustainability‑related risks to M&G’s corporate operations relating to M&G’s third party supplier relationships escalating material issues appropriately.

Stakeholder & Supplier Engagement

  • Partner closely with Group Sustainability, Finance, Risk, Procurement and Legal to ensure joined‑up delivery and compliance.
  • Influence suppliers and partners to support M&G’s decarbonisation goals through performance expectations, data transparency and contractual mechanisms.
  • Represent Workplace Solutions in relevant internal governance forums and working groups.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management or a closely related discipline, plus a relevant post‑graduate qualification.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in sustainability or environmental management within a large, complex corporate organisation.
  • Proven experience of decarbonising corporate operations, specifically across:
    • Corporate offices
    • Business travel
    • Supply chain
  • Strong, demonstrable expertise in:
    • Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
    • CDP reporting
    • Carbon credits – quality, governance and appropriate use
  • Deep understanding of sustainability regulatory and statutory reporting requirements applicable to corporate operations.
  • Ability to operate with high autonomy, exercising expert judgement and influencing senior stakeholders without line authority.

Desirable

  • Experience within a regulated industry (e.g. financial services).
  • Experience supporting regulatory reviews, external assurance or formal audits of sustainability disclosures.
  • Global operational exposure across multiple geographies.
