Location: Joburg

Job Purpose

To coordinate all Sustainability initiatives, act as an interface with the divisions, sustainable development project owners, and sustainability specialists in collation and quality control of data and information to enable monitoring, evaluation, reporting, strategic decisions and compliance with legal and Corporate Sustainability standards and framework.

What you'll have done before:

Baseline

  • NQF Level 7 (Degree in Science/ Engineering/ Environment)
  • 6 years’ experience in Sustainability, Environmental Management or related
  • Experience in Corporate Social Responsibility

Advantageous

  • Qualification in Sustainability
  • Experience in sustainability reporting
  • Experience in Project Management

What you'll be doing

SUSTAINABILITY DATA COLLATION, REPORTING AND VERIFICATION

  • Lead the Engen-wide management of sustainability data, ensuring timely, accurate, and auditable reporting across the organisation.
  • Consolidate monthly and reporting of data that includes water, energy, waste, fuel usage, KMs travelled and other sustainability KPIs, aligning with corporate ESG targets and regulatory frameworks.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance for verification of data against source documents.
  • Verify accuracy of reported data and advise business on control gaps; and how such controls can be strengthened to improve accuracy of data.
  • Conduct targeted training for data owners and operations teams to collect, recording, and reporting data accurately.
  • Serve as primary liaison with operations and municipal authorities to resolve complex billing, metering, and infrastructure queries, ensuring continuity of data flow and operational compliance.

STRATEGIC DATA DRIVEN DECISIONS

  • Provide technical guidance and data driven insights to enhance Engen’s performance by analysing sustainability data, trends and produce executive-level dashboards, and strategic insights for decision-making.
  • Analyze applicable legal requirements (including new ones), directives, ESG reporting frameworks; industry best practice and assess implications for Engen. Advise the organization accordingly to meet requirements.
  • Assess Engen’s customers’ ESG requirements, industry’s upcoming trends and ESG market pressures, analyze and quantify how these affect Engen’s ability to do business (attract/retain key customers). Advise the organization on sustainability initiatives that would make the most impact based on these analysis and related data.
  • Drive sustainability performance improvement by conducting regular comparative analyses against industry peers and global best practices, translating insights into practical, data-driven recommendations, and implementing targeted initiatives to enhance Engen’s overall sustainability outcomes and competitive positioning.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME SUPPORT

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of Sustainability projects and initiative plans across Engen.
  • Identify, assess and facilitate registration of eligible programmes like Carbon Credits & Renewable Energy Opportunities for carbon credits with appropriate carbon verification standard.
  • Support the development of revenue-generating sustainability initiatives aligned with carbon market mechanisms.
  • Verify carbon tax data to ensure accurate and timely reporting to national authorities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of carbon tax legislation and market developments, providing proactive technical advice on regulatory impacts.
  • Conduct energy audits across operational assets to identify inefficiencies and recommend targeted interventions.
  • Advise Engen on opportunities to reduce carbon tax liabilities through improved energy performance and compliance strategies.
  • Track implementation, consolidate monthly progress feedback, flag bottlenecks and report to the correct internal stakeholders.Coordinate Sustainability feedback sessions with project owners and divisions.

STAKEHOLDER ESG COMMUNICATION & REPORTING

  • Support implementation of the Sustainability communication plan by coordinating and delivering clear sustainability messaging to drive awareness, alignment, and engagement across the organisation.
  • Coordinate sustainability inputs for Engen’s Annual Integrated Report by consolidating data and engaging stakeholders to ensure accurate, compliant, and comprehensive reporting.
  • Collaborate with HSEQ and other Divisions specialists and SMEs in advance to compile stories, feedback and commitments required for stakeholder reporting.
  • Oversee the continuous enhancement of the Sustainability internal portal, ensuring real-time visibility of trends, insights, and divisional performance metrics.
  • Influence senior leadership through data-driven insights and scenario modelling to support investment decisions and policy development.
  • Foster a culture of sustainability through proactive engagement, capability building, and recognition of divisional achievements.
