The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated Building Performance Services Consultant to join our team full time based at Cundall Johnston & Partners Pty Ltd’s Sydney office. In this role, you will be supporting and assisting clients in developing and implementing sustainability and building-performance strategies for their asset portfolios, including target-setting, optimisation and tuning, certifications and ratings and ongoing performance management.

You will work within a friendly, multidisciplinary spanning Building Performance and Sustainability Services, Structural and Building Services Design team and ESD and ESG specialists. While based in Sydney, y ou will collaborate closely with our national team to deliver meaningful outcomes across a wide array of asset types.

As part of our Building Performance team, your impact will be seen through:

  • Working closely with clients to understand and define performance requirements, including net zero objectives, energy efficiency, electrification opportunities and emissions reduction pathways.
  • Identifying opportunities and implementing sustainable practices and cost-saving improvements through energy audits, engineering analysis and industry-based assessments such as Green Star Performance, NABERS, etc.
  • Conducting meetings with clients and managing projects to determine scope, budget, and timelines.
  • Undertaking assessments and audits across diverse building types to identify building‑services improvements, operational enhancements and decarbonisation initiatives.
  • Assisting the team with ongoing day-to-day utility performance and management plans of a portfolio of assets (including but not limited to energy, water, IEQ, waste, carbon emissions, renewables).
  • Provide advisory services to developers, facility managers, asset managers, portfolio owners.
  • Joining a growing group of specialist Building Performance consultants within Cundall’s broader team, with opportunities to be part of our growth from early on and be rewarded through career development opportunities.

The Skills

We are seeking candidates who bring technical capability, analytical strength and a passion for improving the built environment. An inclination toward mechanical and electrical building services engineering will be advantageous given the technical nature of the role.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in mechanical, electrical, or building services engineering (or a related discipline).
  • 3-7 years’ experience within the building services sector ideally within a consultancy or contractor capacity.
  • Strong understanding of building services and management system (BMS) operations.
  • Applied analytical knowledge of building energy performance and optimisation techniques.
  • Experience developing portfolio sustainability strategies, energy‑transition pathways or renewables integration plans.
  • Experience conducting energy audits and building assessments.
  • Understanding of the NCC, relevant Australian Standards and industry codes of practice.

Desirable accreditations:

  • Accredited NABERS Assessor
  • Accredited Commercial Building Disclosure (CBD) Assessor
  • Green Star Performance Accredited Professional
  • Registered Climate Active Carbon Neutral consultant

  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working directly with clients.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Proactive, detail‑oriented, organised and motivated to drive measurable improvement.
  • High proficiency in using Excel, PowerPoint and Tableau or Power BI.
