Job Description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks related to land and engineering survey work for County projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in the operation and maintenance of the field, office, and survey
  • Assists the Crew Chief in the deployment and use of safety equipment and traffic control procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and county regulations
  • Assists in the establishment and maintenance of an elevation benchmark
  • Assists in the monument preservation permit checking
  • Recovers, manufactures, installs, repairs, references, and maintains an inventory of survey monuments and supplies. Coordinates the disbursement of

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA)

Skills and Abilities to:

  • Use and operate equipment used for surveying, radios, computers, printers, calculators, scanners, digital cameras, and compressor jack hammers
  • Operate a motor vehicle
  • Hike over a variety of terrain while carrying survey equipment
  • Stand, climb, bend, squat, kneel, or twist while performing survey tasks
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with other crew members and the public
  • Read and interpret plans, maps, plats, charts, graphs, and reports

PAY $18-20/hour

START DATE The internship begins in May 2026 (start date flexible) and ends in August 2026. There may be the possibility of an extension.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is normally performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to some physical risk and moderate physical effort. Must be able to push, pull, or lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.

Must withstand intermittent exposure to noise, heat, cold, dampness, dust, fumes, traffic hazards, and inclement weather.

PAID INTERN POSITIONS:

An “At Will”, FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

  • Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
  • Are not considered merit employees.
  • Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
