Inspecteur Maritime II et Plus / Surveyor II and Above

Le poste d’Inspecteur maritime II et plus est un poste de niveau intermédiaire destiné à une personne travaillant sous la supervision et l’accompagnement d’inspecteurs de terrain expérimentés. Sa fonction principale consiste à examiner les navires et autres structures marines, pendant et après leur construction, et à produire des rapports à leur sujet afin de vérifier leur conformité aux exigences applicables permettant de maintenir le navire en classification auprès d’ABS et de satisfaire aux exigences statutaires et aux exigences de services spéciaux connexes relatives à la sauvegarde de la vie humaine en mer, aux lignes de charge, au jaugeage, aux appareils de levage de cargaison et à la certification en matière de prévention de la pollution.

Ce que vous ferez : (Avec l’assistance et l’encadrement d’un inspecteur ABS expérimenté)

• Agir à titre de spécialiste professionnel pour l’organisation dans l’application des règles, règlements, exigences, concepts, principes et processus pertinents.
• Effectuer des inspections de routine sur des navires classés, des plateformes ou d’autres structures marines, ainsi que chez des fabricants, aux fins de classification et de conformité aux exigences statutaires.
• Préparer des rapports d’inspection et de visite techniquement exacts et remis dans les délais requis.
• Communiquer avec les clients afin de résoudre des problèmes dans son domaine d’expertise.
• Tenir les dossiers d’inspection à jour et en bon ordre dans son secteur de responsabilité.

Ce qu’il vous faut :

Formation et expérience

• Diplôme d’un établissement d’enseignement supérieur dans un domaine pertinent du génie ou des sciences physiques (programme minimal de deux [2] ans); ou
• Diplôme d’un établissement maritime ou nautique, ainsi qu’une expérience pertinente en mer à titre d’officier de navire certifié; et
• Répondre aux exigences minimales et posséder les connaissances énumérées pour le poste d’Inspecteur maritime I / Surveyor I.
• Au moins trois (3) ans d’expérience à titre d’Inspecteur maritime I / Surveyor I ou
• Au moins cinq (5) ans d’expérience dans une fonction d’ingénierie ou d’inspection au sein de l’industrie maritime ou d’une autre industrie pertinente à sa spécialisation
• Des certifications et/ou permis appropriés dans les domaines de spécialisation peuvent être requis.

Connaissances, compétences et aptitudes

• Capacité à acquérir une connaissance pratique des règles et guides d’ABS, des règlements statutaires et des instructions connexes, ainsi que de la politique de sécurité des employés d’ABS.
• Capacité à lire des plans d’ingénierie et à posséder une compréhension de base des pratiques de construction navale et de l’exploitation des navires.
• Capacité à effectuer des inspections selon le format prescrit.
• Connaissance des programmes informatiques ou logiciels liés aux responsabilités du poste.
• Connaissance des interfaces techniques connexes requises pour le travail de projet en groupe.
• Connaissance des systèmes d’ingénierie et de la machinerie des navires.
• Capacité à communiquer en anglais, à l’oral et à l’écrit, des informations pertinentes à son domaine d’expertise technique assigné.
• Capacité à analyser les problèmes et à proposer des solutions.
• Souci du service à la clientèle et capacité à bien travailler avec les autres.
• Capacité à acquérir une connaissance pratique des systèmes de gestion de la santé, de la sécurité, de la qualité et de l’environnement d’ABS.
• Grâce à des affectations plus vastes et plus exigeantes sur le plan technique, la personne doit développer une compréhension approfondie des opérations sur le terrain, des politiques, des méthodes et des procédures.

Exigences physiques:

• Lorsque les lois locales le permettent, un examen médical préalable à l’emploi est obligatoire.
• Le rôle d’inspecteur/auditeur exige une force physique, une endurance, une agilité ainsi qu’une acuité visuelle et auditive suffisantes pour accomplir efficacement les tâches énumérées.
• La capacité de monter des échelles verticales jusqu’à neuf mètres et de circuler dans des escaliers abrupts est essentielle.
• Doit être capable de travailler en hauteur sur diverses plateformes et divers équipements de levage.
• Doit être capable de se déplacer dans des espaces restreints et de travailler dans des zones confinées pendant de longues périodes, notamment en s’agenouillant et en rampant.
• Le poste peut comporter une exposition à des environnements industriels, à des risques potentiels de blessure, à des conditions météorologiques extrêmes et à des activités physiques exigeantes.
• Doit être capable de soulever au moins 25 lb / 11,34 kg.
• L’utilisation de petits outils et le port d’équipement de protection individuelle (EPI), conformément aux procédures de sécurité d’ABS, peuvent être requis.
• Lorsque les lois locales le permettent, l’inspecteur devra réussir un examen médical annuel confirmant de nouveau sa capacité à exécuter les actions physiques exigées par le poste.

Relations hiérarchiques :

Relève du Principal Surveyor, du Senior Surveyor ou du Surveyor-in-Charge du port assigné. Ce poste n’a pas de subordonnés directs.

Exigence linguistique :

La connaissance de l’anglais est requise pour ce poste en raison de la nécessité de communiquer avec des clients, collègues et documents techniques à l’extérieur du Québec dans le cadre des responsabilités du poste.

Inspecteur Maritime II et Plus / Surveyor II and Above

The Surveyor II and Above is an intermediate-level position for an individual under the supervision and guidance of experienced field surveyors. The Surveyor II and Above’s primary function is to examine and report on vessels and other marine structures during and after construction relative to compliance with the applicable requirements for maintaining the vessel in Classification with ABS and meeting associated statutory and special service requirements related to Safety of Life at Sea, Loadline, Tonnage, Cargo Gear and Pollution Prevention Certification.

What You Will Do: (With the assistance and guidance of an experienced ABS Surveyor)

• Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles and processes.
• Performs routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms or other marine structures and at manufacturers for classification and compliance with statutory requirements.
• Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys performed.
• Engages in contact with clients to resolve problems within area of expertise.
• Maintains survey files in an orderly and up-to-date manner in area of responsibility.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

• Qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum two (2) years program); or
• Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer, and
• Minimum requirements & knowledge listed for Surveyor I
• Minimum three (3) years of experience working as a Surveyor I or
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in an Engineering or Survey Capacity within the marine industry or other applicable industry to their specialization
• Appropriate certification and/or licenses in areas of specialization may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
• Ability to read engineering plans and have a basic understanding of shipbuilding practices and vessel operations.
• Ability to perform surveys in the prescribed format.
• Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
• Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
• Knowledge of ships' engineering systems and machinery.
• Ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to assigned area of technical expertise.
• Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.
• Responsiveness to customers and the ability to work well with others.
• Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
• Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, the individual must develop a thorough understanding of field operations, policies, methods, and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

• Where allowed by local laws, a pre-employment physical examination is mandatory.
• The role of surveyor/auditor requires sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, and both visual and auditory acuity to perform the listed duties effectively.
• The ability to climb vertical ladders up to nine meters and navigate steep steps is essential.
• Shall be capable of working at heights on various staging and lifting equipment.
• Shall be able to maneuver in tight spaces and work inside confined areas for extended periods, including kneeling and crawling.
• The role may involve exposure to industrial environments, potential injury risks, extreme weather conditions, and demanding physical activities.
• Shall be able to lift at least 25 lbs. / 11.34 kgs.
• The use of small tools and the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in accordance with ABS safety procedures, may be required.
• Where allowed by local laws, the surveyor will be required to successfully complete an annual physical that will recertify that the individual can perform the physical actions required.

Reporting Relationships:

Will report to the Principal, Senior, or Surveyor-in-Charge of the assigned port. This position does not have any direct reports.
