What we are looking for

The New Construction Surveyor is responsible for delivering high‑quality classification and statutory survey services for newbuilding vessels in Vietnam. The role requires an engineer capable of operating independently at shipyards and representing Lloyd’s Register with confidence and professional authority.

The Role

  • Perform and oversee new building surveys covering hull, structure, machinery, and systems.
  • Apply engineering judgement to assess compliance with LR Rules, international conventions SOLAS, MARPOL, and approved plans.
  • Attend and witness material and equipment inspections, shop tests and factory acceptance tests (FAT), Sea trials and harbor trials. Familiarity with welding inspection, NDT, WPS and WQT.
  • Verify that construction, installation, and testing activities meet approved drawings, specifications, and class requirements. Manage survey findings, technical discussions, and closure of nonconformities.
  • Reporting to the site Project Manager maintain effective working relationships with shipyards, owners, and if required flag authorities.

What you bring

  • Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5-10 years proven experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or marine surveying.
  • Comfortable working independently in shipyard environments.
  • Professional, reliable, and safetyfocused.

Preferred

  • Prior classification society experience.
  • Direct involvement in newbuilding projects and good spoken and written English.
