Job Title: Survey Technologist

Reporting to the Senior Surveyor, the Surveying Technologist plays a key role in maintaining operational continuity and may support coordination of day-to-day activities when required. This role is hands-on and includes active participation in field surveying activities as operational demands require.

The Surveying Technologist is a senior technical role within the survey team, responsible for delivering high-quality survey data, supporting efficient workflows, and contributing both in the office and in the field. This position combines strong technical expertise with practical field experience to ensure accurate data preparation, reliable layout, and consistent survey standards.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Data Management & Deliverables

  • Process, review, and organize incoming CAD files, PDFs, and design data.
  • Develop accurate linework, surfaces, and digital models for layout and machine control.
  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality control of survey outputs.
  • Prepare drawing packages, reports, and supporting documentation for stakeholders.

Field Surveying & Technical Execution

  • Perform field layout, data collection, and verification as required.
  • Support construction and mining layout activities to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot field data or equipment issues in collaboration with the team.
  • Maintain survey equipment and ensure proper data handling procedures.

Workflow Coordination & Team Support

  • Help establish efficient field–office workflows.
  • Assist in organizing daily tasks and ensuring survey crews are prepared with accurate data and clear priorities.
  • Provide guidance and clarification on layout requirements and technical procedures.

Operational Support

  • Provide experienced technical oversight to help maintain continuity and quality across survey activities.
  • Support coordination of daily survey operations when required.
  • Reinforce safe work practices, data integrity, and adherence to standards.

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct regular checks on data integrity, layout accuracy, and field procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency between field and office processes.
  • Support implementation of new technologies, software, or surveying standards.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the Senior Surveyor, Engineers, Geologists, and Operations teams to understand project requirements.
  • Provide technical input during planning and coordination meetings.
  • Maintain clear communication between field and office teams to ensure alignment.
  • All other duties as reasonably assigned

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications:

  • A Degree in geomatics, surveying technology, or a related field
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Experience / Skills

  • A Minimum of 5 years of related experience is required. Mining/Industrial experience is essential
  • Strong proficiency in CAD and survey software (e.g., Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center)
  • Demonstrated field experience in construction or mining survey
  • Solid understanding of construction and/or mining workflows and layout practices
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Must have past demonstrated experience in helping build a strong safety culture, as well as awareness of, and adherence to, all required health and safety best practices
  • Detail oriented with excessive attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exhibits a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters
  • Effective team player who can jump in wherever is needed
  • Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

All Applicants MUST be legally entitled to work in Canada. Priority hiring consideration will be given to Indigenous Nations members who reside within the territories our projects are located.

Compensation
The expected hourly range for this position is CA$45/h - CA$48/h, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
