Generally responsible for assisting with field surveys, computer aided drafting and elementary survey computations, laser scan registration, and preparing drawings to be used for the design and construction of industrial facilities, roadways, residential and commercial developments, as well as construction staking. This work will be performed under the supervision of a professional landy surveyor. Short-term travel will be required on occasion.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Completing project safely and within required accuracy and timeframe.
Coordinating with survey team and design team to ensure survey scope is clear and deliverable expectations are met.
Coordinating findings with the work of engineering teammates, clients, and others involved in projects.
Assist in developing a plan of action for assigned projects.
Adhering to existing standards of practice for surveying.
Operate assigned field equipment in the accomplishment of fieldwork.
Accurately measure angles, distances and other information in conformance with regulations and company standards.
Assist in conducting surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles.
Assist in establishing construction control points for use in the installation of equipment and materials.
Develop sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys.
Recording the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
Searching legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.
Provide input on the technical approach to project tasks and the immediate & finished work product to ensure that they meet objectives.
React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Assist the field team lead for surveying and laser scanning tasks in collecting data and operating field equipment.
Education: Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting, Surveying/Geomatics or related field is preferred.
Registration: No registration is required for this position.
Experience: This position requires 2+ years of relevant experience in land surveying and computer aided drafting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with standards and codes.
Proficient in the use of field instruments such as robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and laser scanners.
Familiarity with Cyclone laser scanning software or equivalent a plus.
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Carlson Software or equivalent.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Familiarity with surveying and/or civil/structural engineering terminology is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry in excess of 25 lbs.
Ability to use the entire body, more often hands and arms, in handling, positioning, and moving equipment.
Ability to perform work outdoors in hot or cold climates, which may also involve walking through difficult terrain.
