What you’ll do:

As the Survey Crew Supervisor, you’ll oversee daily field survey activities, guide and train crew members, and ensure all collected data meets professional, state, and industry standards. You will play a critical role in supporting public works designs, boundary surveys, topographical surveys, and construction layout by operating specialized survey instruments, data collectors, and GPS equipment.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading and supervising survey crew personnel and maintaining a safe, organized worksite
  • Setting priorities, managing schedules, and monitoring progress to ensure accuracy and compliance, as well as maximizing efficiency
  • Collecting, reviewing, and reporting detailed field data and daily activity logs
  • Operating and maintaining survey instruments and equipment
  • Preparing field sketches, interpreting construction plans, and checking data for accuracy
  • Supporting special projects, public requests, and emergency operations
  • Continuously improving field methods, procedures, and overall workflow
  • Provide Quality Assurance and Quality Control
  • Perform basic property research and Autocad functions

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least three years or more of surveying experience
  • At least one year of supervisory experience
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license (or ability to obtain one within 3 months) and compliance with County motor vehicle policies
  • Must be a resident of South Carolina

Physical Requirements:

This role involves a blend of office and field work but mostly field surveying practices. Candidates should be able to:

  • Lift or carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Walk on uneven terrain for up to ¼ mile multiple times daily
  • Work in wilderness environment regularly
  • Sit or stand for extended periods
  • Communicate clearly in person, by phone, and in writing

Working Conditions:

  • Work performed both indoors and outdoors; weather and climate exposure expected
  • Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM
  • Moderate travel within the county
  • May be required to report during hazardous weather or emergency conditions
