Verdantas is seeking a highly motivated Survey Crew Chief to lead field operations utilizing both conventional surveying methods and cutting-edge reality capture technologies. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality geospatial data that supports engineering, infrastructure, utility, environmental, and construction projects nationwide.
At Verdantas, Survey Crew Chiefs leverage industry-leading technologies including robotic total stations, GNSS, terrestrial laser scanning, UAVs, LiDAR, and digital workflows to capture and deliver accurate, data-rich representations of the built and natural environment. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced technology on complex projects while helping drive innovation across the geospatial industry.
What You'll Do:
Lead survey field crews in the collection of geospatial and reality capture data
Perform and oversee boundary, topographic, utility, control, construction layout, and as-built surveys
Operate surveying equipment including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, and digital levels
Execute terrestrial laser scanning and UAV collection projects.
Establish and verify project control networks to support survey and reality capture workflows
Utilize modern digital field workflows, cloud-based data management systems, and geospatial technologies to improve efficiency and data quality
Conduct field quality assurance and quality control reviews to ensure accurate project deliverables
Coordinate field logistics, equipment deployment, project schedules, and crew assignments
Maintain field documentation, reports, metadata, and project records
Mentor and train crew members on emerging geospatial technologies and field best practices
Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, GIS specialists, BIM professionals
Promote a strong culture of safety, technology innovation, and continuous improvement
What You Bring:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum 5 years of progressive field surveying experience
Experience leading survey crews and managing field operations
Experience with traditional and reality capture hardware
Strong understanding of survey control, field procedures, and data collection methodologies
Ability to learn and apply emerging technologies and digital workflows
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification
Ability to walk, climb, bend, and stand for extended periods
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to safely work in active construction, utility, industrial, and transportation environments
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Engineering Technology, or related field
Experience with Leica, Trimble, Faro equipment or similar technologies
Surveyor-in-Training (SIT/LSIT) certification
Travel Requirements:
Ability to travel up to 60%, including overnight travel and extended assignments throughout the United States.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
Salary Range:
The compensation range starts at $33.65 and is based on experience and licensure.
