Job Description

Survey Administrators are responsible for:

• Traveling frequently to selected locations to administer survey or assessments to study participants
• Making in-person contact with selected respondents to discuss the study, answer questions, and obtain participation
• and/or assessments
• Prompting school staff by email and phone for missing data collection information (such as ensuring teachers administer surveys directly to students, scheduling make-up sessions, resolving data collection discrepancies)
• Hosting meetings with school staff to assess preparedness of scheduled survey dates, ensuring survey day logistics are completed
• Communicating with school staff to track parental consent returns and student eligibility to ensure only students allowed to participate, participate on the scheduled survey date
• Independently managing administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainings
• Assuming full and legal responsibility for use and care of project issued equipment
• Safeguarding any issued equipment or project materials against damage, loss, or theft
• Submitting timely and accurate Time and Expense reports
• Attending virtually scheduled meetings with other members of the project team
• This position involves standing, walking and climbing stairs, and transporting equipment and materials such as laptop computers and notebooks weighing 15 pounds or more

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening
• Fluency in English through reading, writing, and speaking
• Available for entire training and data collection period
• Able to successfully complete training
• Must have a valid US driver’s license and reliable personal automobile available for business use
• Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop, and other associated equipment
• Access to password protected WiFI connection for data transmission and administrative responsibilities
• Able to keep project information confidential
• Willingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after dark
• Ability and willingness to drive up to three hours from home to assigned sampled schools
• Ability and willingness to drive more than three hours from home to assigned sampled schools requiring an overnight stay
• Ability to uphold project-specific standard operating procedures and guidelines.
• Ability to work early morning weekday hours when survey dates take place.

• Positive, self-motivated, curious, and enjoy interacting with people from a variety of backgrounds
• Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines
• Computer skills, namely email and internet proficiency
• Experience conducting data collection in a school/classroom setting
• Ability to manage work tasks independently and as part of a team
• Experience effectively managing classrooms to avoid potential disruptions during a proctored survey/assessment or in a similar environment.
• Experience with survey data collections which collect sensitive health and behavior risk information
• Experience with fostering a safe environment in which sample members feel comfortable responding to sensitive health and behavior risk survey questions
• Ability to troubleshoot technology issues independently
• Experience with data entry tasks within a control system

Pay Details

The pay rate for this position is $20/hour. Hourly wage is based on experience and geographical location.

Project Details

RTI International is seeking part-time Survey Administrators on a school-based computerized study. The in-school survey administrator teams are responsible for administering school-based surveys and/or assessments to students in a classroom setting and following up with schools for survey make-up dates administered by school staff.

The National Youth Risk Behavior Study (YRBS) is a biennial, school-based survey that monitors health-risk behaviors among U.S. high school students to inform public health policies and interventions. The YRBS is a critical resource for understanding adolescent health behaviors, guiding interventions, and shaping policies to improve youth well-being across the United States.

RTI International is a non-profit research organization contracted to collect data. We are working with approximately 300 schools across the country.

This is a temporary part-time position that will offer an average of 20 hours per week once hired through the duration of the data collection period of June 2027.

Work Schedule

• The data collection period is expected to be 11/16/2026 through 06/30/2027
• On average, you will be needed approximately 20 hours per week when work is available.
• On average, you should be available to work in the field 3 days each week.
• The majority of this work is anticipated during weekdays during daytime hours, with possible overnight travel
• Each of your trips to the field are expected to be at least 8 hours long

Training Details

Survey Administrator Training Requirements:

• Must attend all trainings and successfully complete required courses
• Must complete a certification after training to ensure readiness to work on the project
