Position Summary
The Patient Care Clerk supports perioperative services by assisting with patient transport, safe patient handling, operating room preparation, equipment movement, and environmental cleanliness. This role helps ensure efficient surgical workflows, maintains a safe environment for patients and staff, and supports the timely turnover of operating rooms while adhering to organizational policies, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
• Safely transport, transfer, and position patients using appropriate equipment and established patient handling protocols.
• Assist with the transportation of equipment, supplies, specimens, blood products, and other materials as required.
• Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, including room setup, equipment placement, and environmental readiness.
• Turn over operating rooms efficiently between procedures and return equipment and supplies to designated locations.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment in accordance with infection prevention and sanitation standards.
• Operate patient transport devices, lifting equipment, and other mechanical assist devices according to manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols.
• Assist with stocking and replenishing supplies and materials used to support perioperative services.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
• Demonstrate professional communication and collaboration with patients, visitors, physicians, and team members.
• Comply with all organizational policies, accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the department and organization.
Education & Experience
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 60 days of employment.
• Previous healthcare, patient transport, surgical services, or hospital support experience preferred.
• 0-1 years of experience required; healthcare experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies
• Knowledge of safe patient handling, transport procedures, and infection prevention practices.
• Ability to safely operate patient transport and lifting equipment.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Ability to follow instructions, adhere to established procedures, and maintain attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team

• Work is primarily performed in a clinical office setting and involves frequent telephone and in-person communication with patients and staff.
• The role involves continuous engagement and interaction with others and may involve occasional or frequent interruptions.
• The work environment reflects typical conditions found in a medical practice, including exposure to standard clinical equipment, patient interactions, and administrative workflows.
• There is potential exposure to common medical practice conditions, including communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and chemical substances.
• Physical demands include walking, bending, reaching, lifting up to 20 pounds, stooping, assisting patients, and prolonged periods of sitting.
• The position may also involve occasional stress due to multiple responsibilities and competing priorities.
