Maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions throughout the surgical procedure. This position is responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and implements policies of the hospital related to surgery. Works alongside the circulating Registered Nurse and under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective care that maximizes patient safety.
Essential Functions:
•Provides sterile instruments and supplies throughout the surgical procedure
•Performs appropriate surgical counts throughout the surgical procedure
•Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment
•Prepares surgical cases with the necessary equipment, supplies, instruments, and medications/solutions for each procedure
•Expedites procedure by anticipating the needs of the physician through proper selection of appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies
•Supports the operation of the unit by completing assigned tasks such as inventory, stocking, and cleaning of assigned areas
This position includes weeknight, weekend, and holiday call.

Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience in Surgical Technology required.
Pay Range: $23.31-$36.36/hour
Employment Type: Full Time, 80 hours every 2 weeks
Schedule: Four 10 hour shifts Monday - Friday, This position includes occasional weeknight, weekend, and holiday call.
Requirements: Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience in Surgical Technology, BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required.
STANDARDS OF CARE
Promotes patient safety by maintaining the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department, including maintaining the patients bill of rights.
Achieves unit specific initial and ongoing competencies.
Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique and/or clean surgical/procedural technique.
Demonstrates appropriate use of emergency equipment
PATIENT CARE
Accurately completes assigned procedures in a thorough and timely manner under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
Demonstrates proper use of and shares knowledge with other staff regarding equipment, techniques and procedures.
Expedites procedure by anticipating the needs of the physician, selecting appropriate equipment/supplies.
Demonstrates correct use of and shares knowledge with staff regarding equipment, techniques and procedures.
Trouble-shoots and maintains equipment.
UNIT MAINTENANCE
Supports the operation of the unit by completing assigned tasks such as inventory, stocking and cleaning of assigned areas.
Assists with regulatory and unit checks as delegated.
INSTRUMENT PROCESSING
Processes instruments effectively to include cleaning, inspection, and testing for proper functioning, assembly and sterilization according to standards.
SET UP OF SURGICAL CASE CARTS
Assembles case carts to include all surgery items and instruments in a timely manner for surgical cases.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Minimum Required Education:
Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience in Surgical Technology.
