Surgical Technologists play a vital role in supporting surgeons and RNs throughout operative procedures, helping ensure high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgery. In this position within the Ophthalmology Surgical Center, responsibilities include preparing andmaintainingsterile fields, checking supplies and equipment, passing instruments, and supporting proper sterilization processes following procedures.
This role supports a variety of eye surgeries and procedures in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. It offers a hands-on opportunity to gain valuable experience in the operating room while contributing to positive outcomes for patients and caregivers.You’llbe part of a growing workspace with Cole Eye at Main, working alongside a collaborative team with a strong, supportive culture.
A caregiver in this position worksdays| full-time|on-call| 7:00am—330pm|3-month orientationrequired, will begin takingcallsafter orientation is completed.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform scrub functions andassistin circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
Set up the sterile table and ensureappropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. atappropriate timesduring surgery.
Assistin gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
Ensure aseptic condition ismaintainedby the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
Collect,identifyand label specimens removed during surgical procedures andgivesspecimens tocirculatorfor disposition.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Successful completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited through CCAAHEP or ABHES OR Certification as a Surgical Technologist (TS-C or CST) OR completion of a military Surgical Technology Program OR state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited Surgical Technology Program
