Under the direct supervision of the Circulating Nurse within the Operating Room, the Surgical Tech completes surgical set-ups according to department standards and physician preference cards. The Surgical Tech is a member of the surgical team providing care to the patient and is responsible for maintaining the sterile field; surgical instrumentation; preparation of supplies and equipment; as well as other related duties. Participates in call, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Comply with department standards inclusive of: attendance, dress code, and varied work schedule. Duties include anticipating physician needs at the sterile field, preparing supplies, instruments and equipment. The Surgical Tech is responsible for implementing aseptic technique, practices related to prevention of retained foreign objects, safe medication labeling and handling, anticipatory skills related to the sequence of the procedure, specimen handling, and adhering to department policies, procedures, and practices. Participate in maintaining a survey-ready environment. Ensure patient safety by following regulatory and hospital standards of care. Utilize and participate in evidence-based research to guide best practice.
We’re seeking a highly-skilled, self-motivated professional with:
·Graduate of accredited Surgical Technician program or relevant years of experience required
·BLS from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association required
·Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification preferred
·Surgical Technician certification preferred
·Working knowledge of the use, function and operation of operating room equipment
·Working knowledge of aseptic technique.
·Working knowledge of surgical procedures including anatomy and correct terminology.
·Ability to provide information, explain policies and procedures to team members.
·Ability to set priorities, recognize emergency situations and take the appropriate action under the direction of the registered nurse.
·Work independently and follow through on all assignments
·Ability to move objects, such as heavy carts and handle surgical equipment safely
·Ability to speak, write and read English. Graduate of accredited Surgical Technician program or relevant years of experience. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification required. Surgical Technician certification preferred
