The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role as a key member of the surgical team, serving as the primary scrub technologist during procedures. This individual is responsible for preparing, organizing, and managing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure efficient and safe operations. The Surgical Technologist maintains strict adherence to sterile techniques and demonstrates continuous attention to preserving the integrity of the sterile field throughout each procedure.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain a minimum of 15 Continuing Medical Education hours annually.
Prepare and check instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
Set up and maintain a sterile field, following strict aseptic techniques.
Assist with patient draping and ensure the surgical team is properly attired.
Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
Perform accurate sponge and sharp counts with the circulating nurse.
Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.
Support specialty surgical services and stock OR rooms as needed.
Prepare sterile dressings and assist with post-operative care.
Help orient new staff and contribute to unit goals and objectives.
May handle medications, sharps, and syringes on the sterile field.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
Completed a military surgical technology program
Graduated from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology program and obtain certification through a nationally accredited credentialing organization within 12 months of graduation.
Graduated from an accredited school of practical nursing.
Qualify under the "Grandfathering Clause" by providing proof of at least one year of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility between December 31, 2010, and December 31, 2014.
Qualify under the "Hard-to-Fill Clause" by graduating from an accredited program and obtain certification through a nationally accredited credentialing organization within 24 months of hire.
New Graduates:
Official transcript from accredited school or letter emailed directly from the school’s registrar’s office confirming program completion will be accepted upon graduation.
Primary source education verification required within 90 days of start date.
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
Certified Surgical Technologist certification through a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization and degree from an accredited program in Surgical Technology required--OR-
* Surgical Technologist Certification is not required for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) with current licensure in the State of New York.

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE:
$22.75 - $32.53
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
