The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing high-quality patient care throughout the surgical experience, including the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases. This role works collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and clinical staff to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care. The RN also serves as an educator and advocate for patients and their families, helping them understand procedures, recovery expectations, and ongoing care needs.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care during the pre-operative, operative, and recovery phases of surgery.
- Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
- Deliver safe, quality care in accordance with ASC policies, state nursing regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions, responses to treatment, and outcomes.
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, medications, recovery expectations, and post-operative care.
- Foster a compassionate environment by providing emotional support to patients and their families.
- Maintain a safe and clean clinical environment while adhering to established policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Follow infection prevention protocols, medication administration standards, and controlled substance regulations.
- Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support a culture of patient safety.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Current Registered Nurse license in the state of employment
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment
Preferred
- One (1) year or more of nursing experience in a surgical, operating room, ambulatory surgery center, or perioperative setting
