Position Summary

Sutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing Women’s Health program in San Francisco. The Physician Assistant (PA) practicing within the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) program provides comprehensive care to patients with complex benign gynecologic conditions in collaboration with MIGS physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The PA evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and manages patients across the continuum of care, including outpatient clinic visits, perioperative care, inpatient management, and surgical first assist responsibilities.This role supports multiple surgical modalities including but not limited to minimally invasive, robotic, laparoscopic, and urogynecology surgical care.Sutter West Bay Medical Group is a premier multi-specialty medical group made up of over 500 physicians and advanced practice clinicians who care for patients at several San Francisco Bay Area locations. Specialty Specific Responsibilities

Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Responsibilities:

• Serve as surgical first assist during minimally invasive gynecologic procedures, including:
• Robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery
• Laparoscopic surgery
• Hysterectomy
• Myomectomy
• Endometriosis excision procedures
• Ovarian and adnexal surgeries
• Perform preoperative evaluations and surgical readiness assessments.
• Coordinate perioperative care plans and patient education.
• Assist with postoperative management, including wound assessment, pain management, and complication surveillance.
• Round on hospitalized postoperative patients as indicated.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and ancillary departments to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.

Procedural:

• May perform approved procedures within scope of practice and demonstrated competency, including:
• Endometrial biopsy
• Cervical biopsies
• IUD insertion and removal
• Incision and drainage procedures
• Suture placement and removal
• Wound care
• Other gynecologic procedures consistent with credentialing and privileges

Core Responsibilities

Clinical Practice:

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.
• Develop and implement treatment plans under applicable state regulations and organizational policies.
• Evaluate patients with complex gynecologic conditions pre-operatively and post-operatively.
• Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, pathology, and imaging results.
• Prescribe medications, therapies, and treatments within scope of practice.
• Perform follow-up evaluations and manage ongoing treatment plans.
• Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, medical management options, surgical procedures, postoperative expectations, and recovery.

Care Coordination:

• Coordinate multidisciplinary care
• Facilitate referrals
• Participate in transitions of care
• Manage population health initiatives

Scope of Practice and Autonomy

The Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) will practice within the scope of licensure, certification, credentialing, and privileging. The APC will deliver safe, evidence-based patient care under applicable collaborative practice agreements and standardized procedures, in partnership with supervising and collaborating physicians. The APC will exercise independent clinical judgment while maintaining physician collaboration and consultation as appropriate to patient needs, clinical complexity, organizational policy, and regulatory requirements.

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to the Director of Advanced Practice. Practices as part of a clinical care team under the direction of their supervising physician(s). Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation Operations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience as a PA required
• Prior operating room, first-assist, robotic, laparoscopic, or gynecologic surgery experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least one year of women’s health, OB/GYN, or related specialty experience strongly preferred

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited PA program

License, Certification, Registration:

• NCCPA certification
• Physician Assistant License (California)
• National Provider Identification at time of hire
• Current DEA registration number
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association

• Demonstrate knowledge of and skill in customer service, conflict resolution, counseling, problem solving, decision making, oral communication, written communication, interpersonal relations, adaptability, change management, results orientation, and teamwork.

• All candidates must meet credentialing and privileging requirements established for physician assistants as set forth by California Pacific Medical Center and Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation.
