Surgical First Assist Registered Nurse – Williamsburg, VA

About the Opportunity

A healthcare organization is seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse with First Assistant certification to join its surgical services team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work directly in the operating room, supporting surgeons and clinical staff while helping deliver high-quality patient care throughout the surgical process.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during surgical procedures within the RN First Assistant scope of practice
• Support patient care throughout the perioperative process
• Maintain sterile technique and comply with operating room protocols
• Assist with surgical exposure, tissue handling, hemostasis, and wound closure as appropriate
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and surgical staff to ensure quality patient care
• Monitor and document patient care activities accurately
• Prepare surgical equipment, supplies, and treatment areas
• Adhere to regulatory, safety, and infection prevention standards
• Contribute to efficient operating room workflow and team communication

Qualifications

Required

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for licensure in Virginia
• Current Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical setting

Preferred

• Previous RN First Assistant experience
• Prior operating room or surgical services experience
• Experience supporting multiple surgical specialties
