• In order to be successful for this role, the candidate must have completed his/her mandatory internship and be fully licensed to practice as a SACHO or Clinical Surgical Officer in Sierra Leone
• The SACHO will work collaboratively with the specialist obstetricians/gynaecologists, general surgical team, nursing/midwifery teams at the Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) and the local district health authorities to provide clinical care and to strengthen the health system for surgical care in Kono district
• This is a national position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work in collaboration with the OBGYNs, Specialist Surgeon and MoHS Surgical MO to provide comprehensive Obstetric and Gynecological care for KGH and Wellbody Clinic, according to current guidelines.
• Provide surgical/ non-surgical clinical care for patients throughout their maternity episode: from referral to diagnosis, outpatient and inpatient management. Including antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, family planning and gynecological care
• Carry out daily rounds in the MCOE with the clinical team, midwives and nurses.
• Perform weekly on call duties in collaborations with others clinicians assigned to the maternity department, in order to ensure continuous 24 hours coverage
• Perform clinical teaching, mentorship and capacity building of theatre staff, midwives, CHOs, nurses and students working within and supporting the maternity department
• Support, teach and mentor the maternity theatre teams and others surgical teams in different aspects of daily surgical care
• Support, implement and maintain the Infection Prevention Control protocols by directly supervising care the care in all the maternity departments, and supporting with the same in minor, main theatres and wound care clinic if called upon to do so
• Work in collaboration with the MoHS staff to provide the best obstetric and gynae care to all the patients within your remit as a SACHO
• Ensure and maintain the maternity theatre database in collaboration with the MEQ team.
• Ensure that all documentation in relation to patient care in the maternity department is completed to the highest standard
• Maintain high standards of care for all patients and escalate potential problems to your supervisor
• Other duties as delegated to you by your line manager

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

• BSc Clinical Sciences (Surgery/Obstetrics) – Clinical Surgical OfficerOR
• Diploma in Surgery & Obstetrics – SACHO Programme (Required).
• License to practice as a SACHO or Clinical Surgical Officer
• Ability to work well in a team, be dependable, flexible, hardworking and time conscious
• Experience in managing high risk pregnancies, complicated deliveries and performing caesarean sections
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given
• A strong commitment to social justice and health as a human right.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Must not hold dual employment.
• Willing to live and work fulltime in Kono, Sierra Leone (Required).
