Job Description

Hours: 40 hrs/wk Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Location: IU Health Urology - Muncie 210 N Tillotson Ave, Muncie in 47304

The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures, serving as the primary liaison between patients, providers, hospitals, and surgery centers. This role includes scheduling surgeries, obtaining insurance authorizations, verifying patient information, communicating pre-operative instructions, ensuring all required documentation is completed before surgery, managing schedule changes and cancellations, and maintaining accurate records within the electronic medical record and scheduling systems. The Surgery Scheduler plays a key role in ensuring surgical cases are scheduled efficiently and that patients are prepared and informed throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managed inbound and outbound phone communications
  • Scheduling patient appointments
  • Collaborating with clinical staff and other departments

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical office experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance verification preferred.
  • Knowledge of Cerner scheduling preferred.
  • Requires general knowledge of medical terminology and general anatomy in order to recognize and accurately record requested examinations and diagnoses.
  • Requires basic computer skills.
  • Scheduling experience preferred.
