Job Description

Animal Referral Hospital Canberra is seeking a skilled Surgical Nurse Team Leader to lead and supervise our strong surgery nursing team. You will provide guidance, support, and mentorship - and most importantly, make a meaningful difference in the lives of animals at one of the region’s busiest specialist and emergency veterinary hospitals.

They will be experienced, motivated, conscientious, and effective in their written and verbal communication with clients, referring veterinarians and other hospital staff across all departments.

This is a Full-time role where you will play a crucial role in the surgical department, overseeing all aspects of surgical nursing care and providing leadership to the surgery nursing team. Duties of this role will also see you;

  • Coordinate and oversee all surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to protocols and standards of care
  • Lead by example, promoting a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth
  • Provide expert nursing care during complex surgical procedures, including anaesthesia and monitoring
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with other departments to facilitate seamless patient care and communication
  • Participate in staff training and continuing education programs to enhance knowledge and skills
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures

About You:

  • Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in veterinary nursing, with at least 1 year experience within a surgical referral practice
  • Previous team management experience, team building skills, and experience leading and motivating a high functioning nursing team
  • Strong knowledge of surgical nursing techniques and procedures
  • Proficient anaesthesia skills with the ability to monitor patients safely and effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
