About the role

The Certified Surgical Technician (CST) serves as a member of the healthcare team and provides technical support to the surgeon, registered nurse, and anesthesiologist in the operating room. The CST assumes appropriate responsibilities in the perioperative area by scrubbing, assisting the RN circulator, setting up and breaking down surgical procedures, pulling and putting away supplies and equipment, and environmental service duties.

What you'll do

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensurepropersupplies,equipment,andinstrumentsarereadyforuse.

• Cleanoperatingroombetweencases.

• Restockoperatingroomsasnecessarytomeetparlevels.

• Assistotheroperatingroomsforcoverage.

• Knowledgeofsurgeonpreferences,procedures,instrumentation,andequipment.

• Preparecasesforthenextday.

• Mayoperatesterilizer,lights,suctionmachine,andotherdesignatedequipment.

• Ensurepatient,procedure,operativesite,positioningandequipmentcorrespond.

• Followthecenterexposurecontrolplans/bloodborneandairbornepathogens.

• Reportobservedor suspected breaksinsterile techniqueand actsaccording topolicy.

• Performhand scrubaccording topolicy andprocedure.

• Arrangeinstruments andsuppliesfor surgicalprocedure.

• Maintainintegrityofinstruments.

• Ensureproper countingofsponges,instruments,andsharps

• Assistingowningofotherpersonnelanddrapingofpatient.

• Anticipatesurgeon’sneeds.

• Passinstrumentstosurgeonand/orassistantasappropriate.

• Communicateneedstocirculatorstoensureefficientanduninterruptedprogressofprocedure.

• Prepareandpreservespecimens.

• Verify name, strength, and dosage of medication with circulator; confirms, labels, and placeson surgical field.

• Cleananddisinfectalltables,countersurfaces,stands,andfloor.

• Mayhelptransportpatientsandrestocktheoperatingroom.

• Performotherdutiesasassigned

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

• Highschooldiplomaorequivalen

• Graduateofanaccreditedschoolofsurgicaltechnology

• CSTcertificationverifiedviaNBSTSA

• BLS certification (as required by individual ASC policy)

PREFERRED:

• OneyearofcurrentSurgicalTechexperienceinanORsetting.
