This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Dune Deck Beach Club, set in Westhampton Beach, New York.

Dune Deck Beach Club is seeking seasonal/part time Surf Instructor to join the Outdoor Pursuits Department. This job will be available from May 15 – September 30 2026.

The Surfing Instructor works with the Outdoor Pursuits manager to deliver exceptional service and unforgettable experiences to the members of Dune Deck Beach Club. This rule is dedicated to providing personal, professional, and enthusiastic surf instruction while maintaining the highest standards of safety and guest care. The Surfing Instructor is responsible for organizing and leading daily surf lessons and excursions, ensuring all activities align with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). By delivering world-class instruction tailored to all levels, the Surfing Instructor plays a key role in creating the unique and memorable Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Activities
  • Attend morning and evening briefings.
  • Store all surf and activity equipment in the correct location.
  • Touching base and maintain enthusiasm with members on a daily basis, encouraging activities and putting into place all necessary preparations for the lessons to provide world class service and instruction.
  • Facilitate and instruct members and staff in surfing and surf lessons.
  • To ensure member and staff safety at all times.
  • Refer any requests regarded as unsafe or any guests refusing to cooperate on safety issues to management.
  • Ensure that all related equipment are maintained in excellent working order.
  • Effect repairs as necessary.
  • Coordinate orders to ensure necessary parts are obtained following standard PO procedure as well as following set budget guidelines.
  • Ensure all monthly safety checks are carried out & followed up and logged on the system.
  • Ensure correct presentation of the OP department areas ensuring that it is clean, organized and professional.
  • Make sure that all equipment is secured at the end of each day.
  • Make sure that equipment is accounted for and that all members are safely ashore.
  • Conduct guest count as required.
  • Assist in other OP services as required, and assist with any duties that may be requested by your manager or supervisors.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Extensive surfing background.

• Previous experience in the guest service or hospitality industry preferred.
• First Aid and CPR certified.
• Applicant MUST be a STRONG swimmer.
• Good judgment and decision making.
• Personable, approachable, creative and adventurous.
• Taking care of all of our members & guests needs.

Additional Requirements

• Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
• Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
