Job Description
Under limited supervision and with independent judgment, the Bond Manager is responsible for contributing to and executing a strategic plan to achieve targeted production and profit results. Responsible for leadership of assigned territory, including the development of staff and perpetuation of the corporate culture, promulgation of underwriting and risk management procedures, implementation and oversight of underwriting and use of authority management, and loss control. This position will have direct reports when feasible. This is achieved by performing the following.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Oversees the profitability, growth, and service levels of an assigned territory by:
a. Managing the agency plant and marketing within the construction community.
b. Leading the underwriting function, including risk selection, pricing, and monitoring of business in conformity with the surety reinsurance treaty
c. Underwriting business that falls outside staff underwriters’ authority limits.
d. Contributing to the development of underwriting policies, procedures, and models, and assisting in the development of long-range goals and objectives.
e. Responsible for the review and approval of all non-standard and/or private bond forms.
f. Traveling with underwriters to facilitate customer development.
g. Analyzing activities, costs, operations, and other data to measure progress toward territory goals.
h. Assisting senior surety leadership with the development and communication of vision as well as strategic and operational plans.
i. Adhering to underwriting guidelines.
j. Providing monthly reporting for activity of prior month.
k. Conducting portfolio reviews on a quarterly basis.
2. May serve as a supervisor of a business unit, including, but not limited to:
a. Recommends and communicates goals; assigns tasks to ensure achievement of required work.
b. Develops, recommends and implements operational plans and procedures.
c. Trains, coaches and leads staff.
d. Prepares and/or reviews performance appraisals; conducts performance review meetings
e. May recommend and/or implement employment actions, including employment/termination, corrective action, promotions/demotions, salary changes, etc.
3. May serve as a contributing member or leader of project team(s), coordinating resources to ensure achievement of project goals
4. Performs other duties as assigned.
