Perform various laboratory tests and procedures including but not limited to biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, immunohematological, microbiological, and serological tests in a research or clinical laboratory. Adhere to standard operating procedures on patient specimens to assist in the diagnosis, study and treatment, or prevention of disease. Uphold the values of the organization including providing and demonstrating exemplary customer service skills throughout the preanalytical, analytical and post analytical processes. Perform preventive and advanced maintenance, troubleshoots and communicate with service representatives, and calibrate laboratory instruments as required. May serve as key operator for implementation of new equipment and procedures. Monitor and ensure adequate inventory supply and ordering as assigned. Evaluate the validity of acceptable quality control, specimens and test results and documents corrective action. Ensure reporting of critical values following standard operating procedures. In complex cases, evaluate all information and determine whether test results should be released, repeated, or referred to a pathologist or to the appropriate individual(s). Maintain accurate and complete documentation of patient information, equipment, and test results to comply with regulations. Maintain clean, orderly and safe work area and ensure hospital and laboratory safety and infection control policies and procedures are followed. Supervise direct reports and manage employee performance. Provide on-going performance feedback including mid-year and annual evaluations. Work with leader on personnel-related issues and participate in discussions regarding disciplinary actions. Orient and train employees, verify competency and identify ways to develop skills through teaching and continuing education opportunities. Assign and prioritize workload.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education / Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a chemical, physical or biological science and three (3) years of experience as a Laboratory Supervisor, Medical Technologist or related role where required experience gained.

Certification: Certification by one of the following accreditation agencies: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), the American Association of Bioanalysts (ABB), or another agency approved by the GA Department of Community Health, generalist or categorical if applicable

Skills:

Developing laboratory wide policies/procedures in accordance with the hospital/university and regulatory agencies;

Evaluating and implementing operational changes to improve the quality and efficiency of laboratory services;

Maintaining accurate and complete documentation of patient information, equipment, and test results to comply with regulations; experience performing instrument maintenance, troubleshooting as indicated, communicating with vendors regarding out-of-service equipment, and performing alternative testing methods;

Training and supporting staff;

Providing various managerial reports related to laboratory operations, finances, employee training/competency, safety and infection control; and

Documenting corrective actions taken for out-of-range test values; and recognizing instrument performance issues, prioritize testing needs and perform alternative testing methods, contacting vendor for service and taking instruments out of service.

HOURS: 9am to 9:30pm - Friday, Saturday, Sunday
