A Brief Overview

Facilitates quality patient care by performing diagnostic X-ray exams and related functions as requested. The supervisor is experienced and knowledgeable in all areas of pediatric diagnostic imaging. Assists the Radiology Manager with department control responsibilities, i.e. resource scheduling, coordinating workflow, and other assigned leadership duties. Works with Radiology Manager to compose technical work schedules, coordinate work flow, employee training issues, and other leadership duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Performs direct patient care by performing radiographic examinations requested by credentialed physicians and coordinates examinations by doing the following:
• Applies the principles of radiation safety to patient care and exam quality.
• Trains additional technical resources in this technology.
• Maintains equipment calibration and quality control records on equipment.
• Transports patients to and from the department to facilitate timely completion of patient exams as requested in accordance with established department procedure.
• Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion in order to comply with infection control regulations & presents a professional look to patients & families by disinfecting room after each patient use
• Restocks supplies if necessary
• Reports equipment malfunction to appropriate person
• Performs a variety of clerical tasks to maintain continuity of patient exams by retrieving reports, answering phones and relaying messages.
• Keeps current regarding developments, trends and techniques and procedures and equipment, as necessary to maintain registry and license, through appropriate journals, conferences and seminars. Attends department meetings as depicted by hospital policy.
• Coordinates quality assurance with Radiologists as necessary to maintain optimal exams.
• Performs a variety of tasks to ensure quality customer service as well as assuring the department remains in compliance with established policies and standards.
• Performs various clerical tasks in order to maintain continuity of patient exams, i.e. file room duties, answering phones, relaying messages, etc.
• Directs patient flow throughout the department and off site clinical locations
• Maintains department procedure manual and communicates changes to technical staff members.
• Assumes administrative call responsibilities on a rotational basis.
• Communicates accurately and appropriately in written and verbal venues so as to foster quality care, customer satisfaction, and inter and intra department relationships.
• Communicates with Nursing, physicians and radiologists to ensure a timely completion and flow of patient examinations. Supports cooperative inter and intra-departmental relations.
• Maintains accurate documentation for departmental and hospital records by recording neatly, accurately, and completely.
• Maintains in-depth knowledge of department work processes, and serves as a ready resource to department members and customers for questions and issues that arise during operations. Further this person oversees training and orienting new employees and students.
• Maintains technique charts throughout the diagnostic areas and ensures their accuracy.
• Responsible for quality assurance, performance improvement projects, and strategic planning initiatives for assigned areas.
• Ensures that equipment is operating properly and within manufacturer specifications and schedules service as needed.
• Performs a variety of supervisory functions that ensure adherence to organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and standards
• IF posting is for an evening supervisory role, the following may apply:
• ◦ Oversee and coordinates evening operations for all Clinical Imaging modalities to ensure safe, efficient, and timely patient care. ◦ Coordinates imaging support for trauma activations, critical patients, and time-sensitive examinations. ◦ Assists with departmental response during high-volume periods, mass casualty events, system interruptions, equipment downtime, or other operational disruptions. ◦ Serves as a departmental resource for imaging transfer and image-sharing processes involving referring facilities, trauma transfers, and specialty consultations. ◦ Coordinates with the Synapse team on receipt, review, and routing of outside imaging studies to support timely clinical decision-making. ◦ Identifies and addresses barriers that may delay image availability, interpretation, or patient progression through the care continuum. ◦ Functions as the central communication hub for overnight imaging operations.
• Personnel Management
• ◦ Prioritizes and coordinates daily work activities. Provides leadership and guidance by sharing expertise with others. Approves schedules and monitors time worked.
• ◦ Trains and/or oversees the training of employees on job related tasks.
• ◦ Conducts employee performance management duties including completion and delivery of performance evaluations, setting goals, dissemination of information, coaching, addressing performance issues/routine correction actions, and recommending termination of employment.
• ◦ Submits notifications for personnel actions (e.g., status changes, terminations).
• ◦ May participate in selection, hiring, and salary recommendations.
• Operational/financial Management
• ◦ Ensures cost effective use of resources by identifying and implementing changes related to staff allocation and assignment, and patient/department supplies.
• ◦ Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies and recordkeeping standards.
• ◦ May assist with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
• ◦ May participate in the implementation of business plans for the area.
• ◦ May assist with annual budget by tracking expenses and providing input for future budget needs.

Education Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or certificate from an AMA approved school in Radiologic Technology or related field Required

Experience Qualifications

• 2 years’ experience performing radiography in a dedicated pediatric facility Required

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge and experience in computers desirable.
• Interpersonal skills necessary in order to educate, counsel and console pediatric patients and family members.
• Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills.

Licenses and Certifications

• ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT registered Upon Hire Required and
• (R) ARDMS or ARRT - Radiographer Current and valid Radiographer license from the State of Nebraska Upon Hire Required and
• Health ServicesBCLS - Basic Life Support from American Heart Association Upon Hire Preferred
