Department Info

The Terumo EMEA Quality and Regulatory (QR) department, operating from Leuven (BE), provides supporting services related to quality, regulatory and complaints & vigilance to internal and external customers in EMEA.

The Laboratory Engineering Section (LES) team, as part of the QR organisation, establishes the framework to ensure that all quality control (QC) tests are performed in compliance with the applicable standards, regulations and customer expectations, using state-of-the-art methods and equipment.

As a Support Lab Engineer, you play a key role within the Laboratory & Equipment Services (LES) team by ensuring high‑quality testing, reliable lab equipment and compliant calibration activities. You will support Lab Engineers across multiple technical domains and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen the quality, efficiency and reliability of Terumo’s products, processes and services. This is a temporary role, support the team for one year, related to an expansion project.

Job Responsibilities

1. Test Method Development & Validation

• Collaborate closely with Lab Engineers (physical, dimensional, chemical or biological) to organize, perform and document test method development and validation.
• Support the full lifecycle management of test methods in line with company standards and international guidelines.

2. Lab Equipment Support

• Assist the Lab Engineer Equipment in selecting, purchasing, implementing and managing lab equipment throughout its lifecycle.
• Support software validation for lab equipment when applicable.

3. Calibration Activities

• Work together with the Lab Engineer Calibration to plan, perform and coordinate calibration activities, including those executed externally.
• Ensure calibration processes comply with internal procedures and international standards.

4. Continuous Improvement

• Improve LES processes according to applicable regulations.
• Contribute to increased output and service levels within QC and LES by optimizing workflows with a focus on quality, efficiency and cost reduction.

5. Non‑Conformities & Corrective Actions

• Implement immediate countermeasures when deviations occur (NCR/CAPA).
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure timely and thorough follow‑up.

6. Project Participation

• Actively contribute to improvement initiatives and support process and product development projects.

Profile Description

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Scientific, Medical or Pharmaceutical studies (Master’s degree is a bonus), or equivalent through at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, validation and modern lab equipment.
• Good understanding of statistics and proficient PC skills.
• Familiarity with European and ISO standards, as well as European and US Pharmacopoeia.
