Job Description

Support Engineer / Supervisor I / Railway Protection Inspector / Technical Officer-Infrastructure Maintenance Team (Civil / Railway Protection) (Ref: 260000LG)

Responsibilities

  • For Civil Team

    • Plan, organise and supervise the day-to-day maintenance works / capital, revenue and maintenance projects carried out by direct staff, contractor staff and term labours to ensure railway civil assets and the associated trackside civil facilities are properly maintained

    • Perform structural inspection / investigation, preventive / corrective maintenance and emergency repair as well as update work procedures

    • Undertake performance monitoring and reporting, contract administration, records management and system support as well as coordination with internal and external stakeholders

    • For Support Engineer

      • Monitor and analyse the site-specific conditions, design changes, and develop engineering and working drawings for the effective implementation of the works in Civil Structures

      • Assist in providing engineering solutions to the existing system design, and propose long term solutions to meet the objective in providing a safe, reliable and efficient Civil Structures

      • Provide comments to engineering reports on various in-house technical study / investigation

      • Co-ordinate with Unit Manager and Engineers in reviewing and consolidating the technical specifications of the tender document during the tendering process

      • Carry out site inspection, including conducting risk assessment on the method statements and regular railway line safety audits to ensure that the works are done in accordance with the quality and safety specifications

  • For Railway Protection Team
    • Conduct regular inspection at the construction sites within the railway protection areas to ensure that railway structures and installation are adequately protected
    • Assist engineer to review construction proposal and method statement
    • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to handle site matters
    • Check any uninformed and / or unauthorised construction activities and assist in preparing incident reports
    • For Support Engineer
      • Review construction proposal submitted by both external and internal parties to assess the possible impact to the railway system
      • Monitor construction activities and review monitoring results regularly to assess the responses of the railway structures / installations and arrange rectification works when necessary
      • Assist for general administrative responsibilities, such as budget monitoring, preparation of agenda & minutes of job meetings, managing quality records, etc.

Requirements

  • Higher Diploma / Higher Certificate in Civil / Construction Engineering or a related discipline

  • A minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience, of which 3 years should be at supervisory level

  • For Support Engineer Degree in Civil / Building Services / Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, and a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience

  • Possession of an arborist certification from the International Society of Arboriculture is an advantage for the Tree and Landscape team

  • Possession of a valid Hong Kong driving licence class 1 and 2, as well as knowledge of concrete repair, leak sealing, tree and landscape maintenance are preferred

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with proactiveness and the ability to work independently

  • Previous experience in railway civil engineering project and construction contractor liaison would be an advantage

Remarks

  • Candidates with lower qualification but extensive experience will also be considered
  • Required to perform shift duties and work under adverse weather and emergency situations
