Job Title: Support Assistant
We are recruiting experienced Care Support Workers, with an interest/background in Mental Health/Counselling services, to work in a brand new Mental Health Crisis centre. Individuals using this service will be presenting in a Mental Health crisis, which may include challenging behaviour and fleeting suicidal thoughts. This role presents a great opportunity for people wanting to further develop a career within Mental Health services.

About the role
- Developing a short-term supportive relationship with the service users, which respects mutual boundaries and the boundaries of our service.
- Providing a personalised and flexible offer of support for people experiencing mental health needs and their loved ones, which inspires hope and creates a non-judgmental space
- Giving Service user’s a positive environment to talk about what they are feeling and experiencing, with the aim of improving their situation and mental state of mind
- Supporting people to develop coping techniques and support ideas and approaches that have been helpful to others
- Providing a coaching and mentoring role which supports people to identify and set their own goals, building on their skills
- Helping people feel more empowered about their own wellbeing
About you
- Lived experience or previous support experience within Mental Health (we can consider those from other care backgrounds)
- Willingness to engage with people in crisis and mental/emotional distress with empathy and respect
- Ability to support and encourage Service User’s you are working with and respond calmly; including when faced with challenging behavior
- Ability to use IT skills to keep records and file information appropriately
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience of working in Mental Health within some capacity
- We can consider Psychology/Mental Health Studies students (Bachelor’s degrees)
- Experience of working in Acute MH Wards or those with Suicide prevention experience would be very useful
- Self-harm and working with Personality Disorders and those with Mental Health substance misuse and addiction
- Equipped to cope with verbal aggression, non-compliance with support plans and non-engagement with services and to be motivated to achieve positive outcomes with Service users.
