Assists mechanic employees in loading supplies, stocking shelves, picking up parts/equipment from vendors, janitorial duties, and building and grounds maintenance for the auto shop. Solicitation of quotations from various vendors by telephone and written documentation for purchases of supplies services, and/or rental for equipment repairs. Answers inquires about stock, helps resolve discrepancies in orders shipped and/or returned. Completes all required work in SWIP/EMS and HMMS for auto shop assignments. Completes timesheets for all employees assigned to the auto shop on a daily basis. Assists shop foreman and mechanics in procuring correct repair parts for vehicles and heavy equipment. Requisition and issues parts, supplies and equipment. Performs quality checks on new supplies and equipment. Delivers and retrieves parts and vehicles to vendors. Assists shop foreman with accountable disposal of waste products such as waste oil, antifreeze and used oil filters. Insures compliance with all environmental policies and procedures for storage and disposal including coordination with waste disposal contractor. Maintains employees "Right to Know" station including MSDS book and all pertinent safety manuals for Charleston Auto Shop. Label all products received per MSDS indexing system. Serves as unit procurement cardholder and liaison in the purchasing of supplies and monitoring user transactions. Assists other supply clerks throughout the district with issues related to the job. Operates a two-way radio to dispatch wrecker services to employees with equipment repair problems. Assists the Shop Supervisor with researching information pertaining to equipment replacement on contracts. Develops training outlines for all mechanics in the Shop and maintain tracking system and rosters for all training. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations such as hurricanes, snow and ice (essential availability). Performs other related duties as assigned.

Examples of duties

A high school diploma and six (6) months of work experience directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.


Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position include sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods and working on a computer. This position requires working in an office environment, warehouse environment, and/or outside in all weather conditions. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.

A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
