Make an Impact at Thermo Fisher Scientific

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, you’ll do meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale. Every day, our colleagues bring our Mission to life by helping our customers make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.

As a Supply Planner on our Pittsburgh team, you’ll play an important role in ensuring products are available where and when our customers need them. You’ll turn demand signals into actionable supply plans, solve shortages and inventory challenges, collaborate across the organization, and identify opportunities to make our planning processes even better.

This is a great opportunity for an early-career supply chain professional who enjoys working with data, solving problems, taking ownership, and seeing the direct impact of their decisions.

What You’ll Do

Own Day-to-Day Supply Planning

  • Build and execute replenishment recommendations to support product availability and customer service.
  • Monitor shortages, backorders, and allocations, coordinating actions through resolution.
  • Manage key planning parameters, including lead times, order quantities, pack requirements, safety stock, and reorder points.
  • Identify supply risks early and recommend practical actions to address them.
  • Maintain clear action plans and provide timely updates to supply planning partners and stakeholders.
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring supply issues.
  • Assist with purchase order review and execution readiness as planning processes evolve.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve standard work, and strengthen planning controls.

Optimize Inventory & Product Flow

  • Monitor inventory health using metrics such as turns, days of supply, excess, obsolete, and stranded inventory.
  • Support inventory balancing and repositioning across distribution centers to improve service and product availability.
  • Incorporate supplier, capacity, and operational constraints into planning decisions.
  • Balance customer service, inventory, and cost considerations when recommending actions.

Collaborate Across the Business

You’ll partner with teams across Demand Planning, Customer Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Distribution & Logistics, Procurement, and Systems Planning to keep supply execution on track. You’ll communicate risks and constraints clearly, maintain visibility to commitments and due dates, and help teams move from issue identification to resolution.

What You’ll Bring

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in supply planning, replenishment, inventory management, procurement, or a related supply chain role. (Including relevant internship experience)
  • Understanding of inventory planning concepts and end-to-end supply chain processes.
  • Experience working with ERP or supply planning systems (Logility preferred).
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas and PivotTables.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and translate findings into actions.

Preferred Qualifications

We’d be especially interested in candidates who bring one or more of the following:

  • Experience with SQL, Power BI, or similar analytical tools.
  • Experience in a high-volume, distribution, manufacturing, or regulated environment, including life sciences.
  • APICS CPIM/CSCP, Lean, or Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience improving processes or contributing to cross-functional initiatives.
  • Experience taking ownership of projects or cross-functional workstreams.

What Will Help You Succeed

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy solving problems and working with data.
  • Take ownership and follow through on commitments.
  • Can prioritize effectively when multiple issues require attention.
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Are comfortable making recommendations when working with competing constraints.
  • Pay close attention to data quality and detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Look for root causes rather than simply treating symptoms.
  • Enjoy improving processes and finding more efficient ways to work.
  • Can adapt quickly in a fast-paced, evolving supply chain environment.
  • Understand how to balance product availability, inventory, cost, and customer needs.
