Job Description

The Supply Chain Senior Director of Procure-to-Pay Operations leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the health system’s end-to-end procurement and payment processes, driving transactional excellence across the procure-to-pay function. This role partners with system leaders to increase automation and efficiency, including expanding touchless purchase orders, advancing EDI transactions, reducing match exceptions, and standardizing electronic invoicing and payment practices. The Senior Director integrates process optimization, technology enablement, and workforce strategies to enhance performance, leveraging ERP capabilities to support implementation, training, and sustained process improvement. This position applies deep expertise in healthcare supply chain operations, labor and systems management, and data-driven decision-making to strengthen operational effectiveness, improve financial outcomes, and ensure consistent, scalable processes across the enterprise, while effectively communicating progress and results to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the system’s day-to-day Procure-to-Pay operations, including workforce management, performance oversight, KPI development and adherence, and budget accountability, while establishing and enforcing standardized procurement policies and procedures.
  • Drives transactional excellence and innovation by partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to optimize purchasing and payment processes, including increasing automation, touchless transactions, and EDI utilization while reducing exceptions.
  • Analyzes business needs and translates them into clear functional and technical requirements, conducting feasibility assessments and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Develops and executes communication strategies and reporting frameworks, providing regular updates on departmental performance, initiatives, and project status to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Establishes departmental goals, success metrics, and performance standards, ensuring adherence to protocols, procedures, and project plans, including defined deliverables and acceptance criteria.
  • Leads and coordinates multiple concurrent projects across the Health System, ensuring effective planning, execution, documentation, and timely completion of initiatives.
  • Develops, implements, and sustains performance improvement strategies, tools, and best practices, identifying dependencies and resolving critical path and operational issues.
  • Provides leadership, direction, and support to team members, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and adaptability while ensuring awareness of operational changes and decisions.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, including executive leadership, to advance strategic initiatives, support data-driven decision-making, and align on high-value business objectives.
  • Develops and manages Procure-to-Pay metrics, KPIs, and SLAs; ensures adherence to quality standards and operational documentation; promotes scalable and innovative solutions, considering existing and new technology trends.

  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field required; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
    • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in supply chain, data management, or Procure-to-Pay operations within large, complex, or matrixed organizations.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare supply chain operations, including strategic sourcing, contracting, logistics, distribution, vendor management, and Procure-to-Pay processes.
    • Experience with ERP systems and related technologies supporting inventory, contract management, and financial operations.
    • Strong financial and analytical acumen, including experience with cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and supplier/market evaluation.
    • Proven ability to apply analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills to complex operational and system challenges, exercising sound judgment with minimal supervision.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard business applications, with the ability to develop reports, analyze data, and support decision-making.
    • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, influence stakeholders, and support business transformation through data-driven and process-focused solutions.
