Job Description

The GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) Supplier Quality Manager is responsible for the quality of procured services, materials, and products in the nuclear business. In close partnership with GEH leadership, you will drive strategic supplier qualification and ongoing supplier deliverables. You will interface and partner with suppliers, regulators and customers. You will lead a team responsible for supplier qualification, non-conformance management, and ongoing supplier oversight.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead execution of GEH’s supplier quality program to drive compliance, safety, quality and continuous improvement, to ensure business objectives are achieved
  • Lead and direct Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) activities focusing on supplier approval, qualification, non-conformance management, supplier surveillance and quality initiatives
  • Manage 12-person Supplier Quality team; promote team morale, involvement and ownership
  • Encourage excellence in compliance, customer service, safety, quality and productivity. Drive team and process continuous improvement through Lean
  • Provide technical guidance to a global supplier base to assure product and process compliance with regulatory requirements and engineering drawings and specifications
  • Own supplier performance, ensuring process robustness, capability, compliance, and driving improvement plans where needed
  • Monitor supplier non-conformance performance, and drive root-cause analyses, corrective actions and process improvements to reduce defects and Cost of Quality
  • Work proactively with suppliers to define specific quality requirements; including development of inspection, verification, qualification, in addition to tests and processes to assure products and services meet the quality requirements
  • Use systems, data and tools to articulate current and potential future quality/performance issues within suppliers and/or internal supply chain
  • Work collaboratively with Sourcing team to develop strategic supplier quality plan and implementation. Identify risks that stem from supplier strategies and decisions, and overall supplier stability
  • Work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, quality and commercial teams to eliminate any barriers that may affect the quality and delivery of sourced components. Communicate with key customers as appropriate
  • Continue to develop and strengthen supplier partner relationships
  • Write and review technical quality documents, plans and procedures
  • Support the development of supplier quality engineering and leadership talent and depth

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in quality, engineering, nuclear operations, manufacturing, sourcing or equivalent discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in a technical role within a Quality Assurance (QA) program in a regulated industry

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel to GE sites and suppliers up to 30% of the time as required
  • Ability to use computers. Frequent use of computer equipment
  • Must be able to relocate to Wilmington, NC

Desired Characteristics

  • Engineering or other technical degree; Master’s Degree in business / engineering
  • Prior management experience
  • Experience working with customers, regulators and suppliers
  • Experience working within a nuclear QA program in Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, Engineering, Operations or Sourcing activities
  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes
  • Strong leader capable of working successfully in matrix organization, as part of a cross-functional team to drive impactful results
  • In-depth knowledge of the disciplines of quality and sourcing management, including supplier development / management, quality systems
  • International and/or procurement experience
  • Product quality experience in a high technology and/or highly regulated industry
  • Strong interpersonal skills; inclusive leadership style; proven ability to build and motivate a strong team
  • Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex situations and drive projects to completion, including schedule control.
  • Ability to communicate & collaborate effectively at all levels ; strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Suite and Oracle Enterprise Resources Planning System (ERP) systems
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification. Experience implementing and sustaining continuous improvement through Lean tools, including KPI/metrics to drive improvement
  • GE Program graduate, e.g., EEDP, OMLP (GE employees only)

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $125,000.00 and $208,300.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
