Job Description

The Supplier Quality Engineer will be responsible for Quality Assurance and Control of Generator parts and Repair jobs at GE's works and suppliers. This role will also extend support for inspection of steam turbine components .

Essential Responsibilities:

Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for Quality Assurance and Control throughout the supply chain of Generator Parts and Repair jobs through Inspection , and auditing of manufacturing Processes and Quality management Systems . They shall also be owning the suppliers across the regions and provide all necessary support of continuously improving the quality standards at suppliers place and follow GEV procedures and systems .Major roles and responsibilities include:

  • Perform visual and Non Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections such as Radiography testing, Ultrasonic Inspection, MPI inspection, Dye Penetrant inspection. Should have hands on experience to perform NDT with own hands, and to calibrate the equipment.

  • Monitor the performance of suppliers in the region and closely work with them to continuously improve the quality of supply chain in the region.

  • Coordinate closely with supply chain and operations team and manage timely onboarding and qualification of suppliers in the region.

  • Perform review of supplier’s documents such as Manufacturing Process Plan (MPP), NDT procedures, NDT (UT) Scan plan, WPS/PQR. Also perform review of supplier’s Quality documents (internal reports) with respect to GE drawings and technical specifications.

  • Perform inspection witness of raw- material testing in lab such as Tensile test, impact test, micro-structure etc.

  • Prepare Inspection report and maintain documentation for inspections performed.

  • Prepare Non-Conformance Reports, and able to perform Root Cause Analysis for the quality issues

  • Perform joint witness with GE’s customers as per Quality Plan.

  • Co-ordinate with external Suppliers, Project Quality manager, GE’s customer and other GE stakeholders like Sourcing, Engineering and Project management.

  • Support the GEV warehouse team in warehouse management.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • B.E.- Mechanical engineering with minimum 12 years’ experience. or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 15 years’ experience.

  • Must have valid NDT Level II in UT, PT, MT.

  • Good Inspection experience with variety of Generator components (forged, machined, fabricated etc.). Also having exposure to inspection of Turbine components.

  • Ability to use metrology instruments to accurately perform inspections (with tolerances in microns) that include but not limited to Faro Arm, CMM, micrometers, etc.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes involved in the production of the intended assigned equipment (e.g. casting, forging, machining, assembly, NDT, as applicable).

  • Experience in reading and interpreting Engineering drawings, Codes, specifications to verify that products are following the requirements set forth in these documents.

  • Extensive out-station travel to supplier’s place will be required to perform the inspections.

  • Proven ability to work independently and with others under stressful conditions.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
