About the Role

Develop supplier capability. Build quality into the supply chain by strengthening processes, problem-solving skills, and systems - so defects are prevented, not detected.

The role acts as the quality conscience of the supplier network, ensuring Maverick Power standards are met through capability, not inspection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supplier Process Capability & Development
  • Assess supplier manufacturing and quality to reinforce and maintain high standards. Identify gaps and coach suppliers to close gaps using lean manufacturing principles.
  • Problem Solving & Root Cause
  • Lead and review supplier corrective actions. Ensure corrective actions prevent recurrence. Reject weak countermeasures (training, reminders, inspections).
  • New Part Introduction & Change Management
  • Support new supplier onboarding and part launches. Review and approve FAI processes, FMEAs, PPAP submissions, and control plans.
  • Verify risk is eliminated before mass production. Ensure changes are evaluated, communicated, and standardized.
  • Supplier Performance Monitoring
  • Monitor supplier quality performance.
  • Use data to prioritize supplier development and identify systemic weaknesses. Focus on leading indicators, not just customer claims.
  • Share manufacturing best-practices to strengthen manufacturing supply chain.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Purchasing, Engineering, Production, and Plant Quality. Align supplier improvements with Maverick Power design intent and production needs.
  • Support escalation when customer risk exists.
  • Ensure supplier concerns and improvement suggestions are communicated for design-improvement consideration.
  • Protecting the Customer
  • Lead containment and response for supplier quality issues. Ensure defects do not reach production or customers.
  • Support stop-shipment or production holds when required. Lead initiatives for material traceability with suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in Supplier or manufacturing quality.
  • Technical knowledge of FMEA, control plans, PAPP/APQP, root cause analysis, error-proofing, lean manufacturing, work instructions, engineering drawings, specifications, process documentation, and experience working directly with external suppliers.
  • Behavioral & Leadership Capabilities
  • Comfortable working on the shop floor (Gemba). Asking 'why' before proposing solutions, using forensic investigation skills.
  • Can challenge suppliers respectfully but firmly.
  • Coaches rather than commands.
  • Values long-term capability over short-term fixes.
  • Willing to stop production or shipment to protect production and the customer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASQ certifications (CQE, CQM / OE).
  • Structured problem-solving experience (A3/DMAIC/8D/PDCA), experience working with suppliers.
  • Lean manufacturing certification (Lean / Six Sigma).

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time.
  • Prolonged periods sitting, standing, walking, and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Prolonged periods standing on the manufacturing floor and sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must have vision correctable to 20/20 and be able to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, boots, gloves, etc.).
  • Duties are performed in a loud production setting subject to extreme temperatures. Some duties may be required to be performed outside.
  • Must spend significant time at the supplier (~60%).
  • Frequent domestic travel to multiple suppliers across regions.
  • Irregular hours - when Quality is at risk/availability during critical events is expected.
  • This role is not ideal for someone who wants predictable hours, dislikes travel, avoids confrontation, and prefers desk-based analysis.
