Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Design, Industrial Design, Project Management, Reliability and Product Operations to deliver Google Hardware products to market.
• Use statistical process control and yield studies to validate process capability (Cp/Cpk), establish reasonable specifications, and drive process improvements in partnership with Tooling and Manufacturing Process Engineers.
• Work with Reliability Engineering to set-up On Going Reliability test plans for manufacturing processes that are critical to function. Set-up quality control plans; PMP, SIP, SOP. Establish OQC/IQC processes, align on MSOP, ensure correlation between sites and track down root cause of measurement discrepancies in IQC, to ensure the smooth flow of parts into FATP.
• Be the first level, go-to person for identifying suitable manufacturing processes. Identify and highlight manufacturability issues during engineering builds to ensure product quality is stable and that supply is predictable during ramp.
• Provide detailed and critical DFM reviews of mechanical parts and make recommendations to Product Design to improve manufacturing processes for quality, yield and cost.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience enabling the transition of new products into high volume production. Experience with mechanical manufacturing processes including; injection molding, CNC machining, stamping, forging, casting and deep drawing.
• Experience with statistical process control including Cp, Cpk, GR&R and with GD&T. Experience with measurement metrology including hands-on experience with OMM, CMM, AOI, and gauges. Experience with DFx, fixture design and qualification, cosmetic inspection methods, measurement fixture design, go/no-go gauges, and measurement correlation.
• Ability to speak and write English and Mandarin fluently and idiomatically.

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of common surface finishing operations including; painting, plating, PVD, anodizing, polishing, lapping and sandblasting. Knowledge of mechanical bonding processes including; snap and press fits, ultrasonic welding, glueing, and application of pressure sensitive and liquid adhesives.
• Understanding of cosmetic quality standards; defining and measuring color, specifying and measuring surface finish, creating cosmetic defect catalogs and establishing grading limits. Ability to drive cosmetic yield studies, and establish and review limit samples that meet the ID design intent.
• Proven track record of yield improvements and cycle time reductions for high volume, high complexity parts, with premium fit and finish.
• A demonstrated ability to proactively influence the product design process by proposing DFx improvements with associated data.
• Comfortable working both independently and as a strong team player in a globally distributed team. A strong sense of ownership, detail oriented, organized and hands-on.
• Ability to actively participate in complex technical discussions in either English or Mandarin.
