Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead daily transportation and dispatch operations for inbound and outbound freight.
  • Manage driver scheduling, routing, dispatch priorities, and workflow execution.
  • Optimize fleet utilization, load efficiency, and route planning to meet performance goals.
  • Monitor schedules and adjust operations to meet customer demands and changing conditions.
  • Ensure 95%+ on-time delivery while maintaining high service standards.
  • Collaborate with Shipping, Receiving, Operations, and Sales to align transportation needs.
  • Oversee fleet readiness, maintenance coordination, and equipment utilization.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment are safe, compliant, and properly maintained.
  • Maintain compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor driver compliance (hours-of-service, ELDs, licensing, safety documentation).
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations with corrective actions.
  • Drive a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Track and report KPIs (on-time delivery, utilization, costs, productivity, service levels).
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate transportation documentation and operational reporting.
  • Utilize systems (AS400, Excel, ELD, routing tools) for planning and tracking.
  • Support staffing, resource planning, and overall logistics execution.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong leadership experience and the ability to build effective teams and work groups while displaying drive and purpose.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate across all organizational levels.

  • Solid knowledge of DOT regulations, fleet management and logistics operations.
  • 2-4 years CDL driving experience required.
  • 1-3 years forklift experience required.
  • Flexible to work varied hours and cover operational needs when required.

EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE:

  • Basic computer skills for data entry, inventory management software, and email communication. Familiarity with warehouse management systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of proper loading, unloading, and stacking techniques for steel products.
  • Experience using AS400 or other ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with OMNITRACS or other routing software a plus.
  • Intermediate MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), basic math skills to include adding, subtracting, multiplication and division.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs (22.7kg) maximum occasionally with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs (11.3kg).
  • Proper lifting techniques and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to minimize physical strain and injury.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Warehouse Environment.
  • Time is spent in warehouse, plant, and heavy metal processing center. Demands prolonged exposure to outdoor and non-climate controlled areas.
