
Leads an engineering team responsible for the design, analysis, and delivery of overhead/underground transmission line projects, providing direction, technical oversight and execution support for all transmission line engineering activities.
Supervises daily engineering operations by assigning tasks, setting priorities, and resolving escalated technical issues, resulting in timely, high‑quality project execution.
Coordinates engineering documentation, design reviews, and material requisition for transmission lines projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance with standards, and readiness before project start.
Optimizes resources and coordinates with Supervising Engineers and regional leaders to align staffing, workload, and field activities, ensuring operational and strategic targets are consistently met.
Implements process improvements, updates engineering and surveying standards, and strengthens HSE compliance, improving efficiency, consistency, and regulatory alignment across the group.
Trains and develops engineering staff by providing ongoing coaching, identifying skill gaps, and managing performance to strengthen capabilities, resolve productivity or quality issues, and ensure a competent workforce ready for future succession.
Analyzes business and performance metrics to identify trends, address issues, and recommend corrective actions that drive increased efficiency and goal achievement.
Builds strong relationships with internal and external partners to facilitate collaboration, support long‑range planning, and ensure smooth execution of cross‑functional initiatives.
Applies strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills to resolve employee concerns and conflicts, fostering a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment.
Tracks team expenses, payroll and ensures adherence to budget guidelines to support cost control.
Monitors and guides team compliance with organizational standards and legal requirements to minimize risk and ensure operational integrity.
Participates in and ensures team participation in critical restoration tasks and drills following storms and/or emergencies to maintain service continuity and operational safety.
Executes and delegates additional responsibilities based on team and business needs to ensure continuity and responsiveness in operational responsiveness.
Additional Job Description:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is preferred.
Experience
4 years of experience in electrical or power systems, preferably in Transmission Lines, with at least two years in a lead role overseeing employees directly or indirectly.
Experience in overhead and underground line design is preferred.
Competencies (Skills)
Demonstrated ability to review and interpret vendor drawings and documentation, ensuring alignment with design intent, protection schemes, and project standards.
Strong technical knowledge in power flow, line design, associated Electrical & Utility codes, constructability, and equipment applications.
Proficiency with engineering design software used in transmission line applications, such as PLS‑CADD.
Foundational to intermediate proficiency in engineering drafting.
Knowledge in structural design, geotechnical and concepts of transmission lines design is preferred.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills with a proactive approach to resolving technical and design issues.
Strong interpersonal, relationship‑building, and communication skills, preferably in English and Spanish.
Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers and apply sound judgment to make informed decisions.
Proven ability to resolve engineering issues, manage conflict effectively, and work collaboratively as a team player while prioritizing assignments to meet commitments.
Licenses/Certifications
Valid Driver’s License
Professional Engineering License issued by the Puerto Rico Examining Board for Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Landscape Architects.
Member of the Puerto Rico Association of Engineers and Surveyors.
