About the Opportunity
Directs a variety of tasks and personnel in the operation and service of equipment, systems and processes in the safe and environmentally responsible production of electricity. This includes the direction of unit operations, safety programs, environmental compliance, efficient use of resources, prudent labor relation actions and awareness of operational trends across the fleet.
Responsibilities include
- Serves as the primary contact point for and takes responsibility for safe and environmentally compliant plant operations as directed.
- Participates actively in assuring a safe work environment for all persons working in or visiting the plant. Directly interjects to promote safety and human performance engagement.
- Interacts and is able to clearly communicate with corporate groups, vendors, consultants and regulatory agencies in all facets of operational activities which may involve safety, environmental, labor and technical processes.
- Provides oversight for the Safety Clearance program.
- Monitor systems and equipment operations and make recommendations to ensure compliance with operational and environmental parameters and the safety of personnel.
- Directs and is responsible for assigned plant personnel.
- Tracks, monitors and reports on Production Department employee schedules and absenteeism. Ensures proper coverage to support daily work
- Provides and ensures individuals are trained and qualifications are maintained.
- Ensure appropriate procedures exist for performing plant operations tasks and that shift operations are conducted in accordance with plant procedures.
- Analyzes plant performance and provides recommendations to reduce operating and maintenance costs and increase reliable, efficient and safe operation of the plant.
- Works with station departments in managing alarm summaries, inhibited alarms and alarm tuning and writing alarm responses.
- Responsible for coordinating and requesting unit testing and derates through the appropriate dispatch group.
- Owner of the critical equipment out of service report.
- Works with the maintenance to ensure equipment derates are scheduled to minimize down time and maximize productivity.
- Interacts with and provides operational feedback to internal and external groups to be certain projects and repairs to plant equipment are completed in a safe, reliable, timely and cost-effective manner.
- Previous supervisory experience to include effective leadership skills to communicate with and direct the work of others by ensuring safe practices and produce satisfactory work results.
- May serve as a sponsor, leader or member of various plant, fleet or corporate level teams and will be an active and contributing participant in all roles.
- Participates in the selection, development and advancement of plant personnel.
- Participates in the prioritization of plant projects and maintenance and provides operational input.
- Provide input to troubleshoot operational issues based on a strong knowledge of plant systems and interactions.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, electrical diagrams
- Assists engineers, technicians, project leads, coordinators, and contractors in resolving operational, safety, environmental and commercial issues.
- Manages and provides direction for predictive maintenance activities assigned to operations.
- Adheres to and enforces Company policies, procedures, work rules and contract language (where applicable).
- Meeting all housekeeping program requirements including safety walk downs
- Assures an effective team environment is maintained.
- Fills in for Manager as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technologies AND a minimum 8 years of related experience OR a minimum of 9 years of direct plant operation experience.
- It is desirable to have additional experience in Maintenance or Technical Departments
- It is desirable to have 5 years of leadership experience
